Environmental groups and scientists with two universities want U.S. wildlife managers to consider reintroducing jaguars to the American Southwest.
In a recently published paper, they say habitat destruction, highways and existing segments of the border wall mean that natural reestablishment of the large cats north of the U.S.-Mexico boundary would be unlikely over the next century without human intervention.
Jaguars are currently found in 19 countries, but biologists have said the animals have lost more than half of their historic range from South and Central America into the southwestern United States largely due to hunting and habitat loss.

The jaguars would be no problem biologically. But this is actually a way for them to forbid any border fence, roads, pipelines, power lines, military exercises... you name it.
This would let the environmentalists grab control of a giant swath of land.
It obviously couldn’t do well in that area anyway. It went away.
There are no Jag dealers there?
We were all super happy when the insane DNR turned two female and one male mountain lions loose not far away.
Naturally, they immediately came to MY area and sat up on the ridge screaming at night.
Haven’t heard them since, as they’re probably trying to make their way back home out west.
Our DNR is full of sociopaths.
Killer bears and coywolves were not good enough apex predators, it seems.
I expect them to stock the local ponds and lakes with piranha and alligators, next, because why not.
They’re a natural threat to the Mustangs in the area.
Maybe they can relocate some serial killers to your area. Just to make sure there’s an even distribution.
Pointless. It’s like trying to bring back saber toothed tigers or cave bears. They’re extinct, as are the subspecies of jaguars in the SW states. Let nature run its course.
I think the DNR should release some of those aliens from “Independence Day”, next. We could use their ships to blow up Baltimore and DC.
we could line the border with jaguars
that’s what I thought, aling with the Impalas.
GMTA!
Reintroduce them in Central Park...and while they are at it, wolves and rattlesnakes too.
Toss in a family of inbred cannibals just for grins.
If the DNR ever masters DNA, I’m sure we’ll have Velociraptors running around the ridges.
LOLOL
/good thing the Pintos are extinct
Screw all this.
Bring back Dire Wolves.
:)
The greenie weenies wanted black bears in Maryland and the protected population exploded out here in the western wastelands.
Couldn't touch 'em, no matter what they killed or destroyed.
They made their way down into the 'burbs and started wreaking havoc and suddenly, we had a "bear season".
The first one was supposed to be 200 tickets and go on for a week or until that quota was filled.
200 bears were killed in like an hour.
*How many bears are there* if 200 can be bagged in the infinite wastelands of W.MD?
A lot.
A *whole* lot.
There's a huge horse killing mangy bear wandering around my world.
The neighbor's trail cam caught it out in my lane.
Loony neighbors feed it.
That’s insane. I live in some of the most heavily populated black bear country in the US, but rarely see one. They’ve always been hunted, and fear people.
How about we give these folks who want this to happen some small charming critters to grow with and love, then have the happy group go and live where jaguars live today.
I sincerely doubt they will be so enthusiastic about people living with jaguars after the experience of exactly how big cats feed themselves.
