You may have had this happen to you already, but this scam is new to me.
My wife just got a call. It was a prerecorded machine advising her that her Amazon account was being charged for $700.00 and this call was to confirm. Press 1 now if this is incorrect.
She had the presence of mind to immediately hang up.
Just ask them if their mother is still feeding them with her left hand.
oh i do too, usually involving their mother and a goat.
Quit calling my house! It’s annoying.
Sometimes I’ll ask the Indian why he sounds like Apu from the Simpsons.
These days, if you call Amazon Customer Service, they won't provide any info for your account until they send you a text message with a code to enter on your cell phone for verification that it's you..
Just HAD that call!
My exact rule.
That's my motto. If it isn't someone in my contacts, I don't answer.
"I don't reckon I need none of that aluminum siding but you got any of those french fried potaters? I been eating them ever since they let me out of that nervous hospital. Said I wasn't a danger to nobody no more. I shore do like them french fried potaters."
Yeah, that’s a good one. :).......I feel so sorry for people who don’t have anyone to look after their interests, especially elderly folks and they get taken to the cleaners. I hope there’ a special place in hell for these scammers!
Spectrum just introduced voice recognition for when you call their customer service. It's not mandatory, so I politely declined.
“I like it! “City morgue, you stab ‘em, we slab ‘em” was always my favorite.”
I used to answer the secure line like that.
Looks like the action taken by our government last year didn’t help. Scammers still are there. There needs to be an unbreakable means of identifying a caller and sending that identifier in the “caller id” data stream. If the call comes from outside the USA, that fact must be captured and indicated along with other “caller id” information.
The number displayed in caller id is unreliable. It can be whatever the caller wants to show you. They are easily falsified. I no longer block numbers because that would be blocking a phony number.
I told my 10 YO grandson about that the other day, he thought that was a hoot.
Stop right there. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING Snopes publishes is true. Hasn't been for a very, very long time.
Instead of a phone call, my mom received an email from Amazon Web Services claiming that she owed them money. She doesn’t even know what Amazon Web Services is.
It took a long while to convince her that the email was a scam. Rather, I hope I convinced her. My mother is incredibly stubborn and believes that she is always right.
LOL. I actually know what that means.
I once took a call from the local County lockup. It was within the realm of possibility that a friend of mine had gotten arrested and needed bail money. But it turned out to be some random inmate calling numbers looking for someone to talk to/scam. I hung up.
I have had several from Amazon. I simply hang up. I have had several others including Ebay and Paypal. I just hang up. That is all you need to do.
Same. If I don’t know who’s calling, I don’t answer.
On the rare occasion that it’s a legitimate call, they’ll leave a voice message.
