Tom Cruise has returned his three Golden Globes statues amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Cruise won the best actor honor in 1990 for Born on the Fourth of July and in 1997 for Jerry Maguire, as well as a best supporting actor award in 2000 for Magnolia.
Earlier today, NBC announced that it would not be airing the 2022 iteration of the Golden Globes. Said the network in a statement: “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right.”
The backlash began after an L.A. Times report detailing that the organization counted zero Black journalists among its then-87 members. Last week, the HFPA’s membership voted to approve a proposal of reforms aimed at addressing its lack of diversity and other ethics issues, but many in Hollywood, including Time’s Up and a coalition of PR Firms, noted that the reforms do not go far enough.

Tom Cruise, winner of 3 Golden Globe awards, will always advertise the fact that he one three times, giving them back just once. He’s the ajohn Kerry who threw his medals over a fence but later touted his status as a Purple Heart veteran.
Jerry MacGuire, Top Gun, come to mind. They were both very popular. As with any actor or actress, they go through peaks and valleys of work and popularity.
Nobody cares much.

Hollywood is DEAD! American popular culture is DEAD!
I take it that Tom Cruise feels the need, to bend over backwards to prove that he is liberal.
The thing is that with Cruise’s box office draw and body of work (see post #24), 3 GGs isn’t going to affect him at all. However, it will devastate many others, whose only award is a GG. So, if he is indeed punking them, then: Well done Mr. Cruise!
For the rest, all I can say is: Suffer, baby, suffer.
Yet Scientology lives. Evil crowd wherein walks Tom Cruise
“...never liked him....mediocre actor at best...naw....crappy actor.”
I’m not crazy about him either. But, I did enjoy his performance as “Austin Powers.” ;-)
His acting was good in Born on the Fourth of July and Vanilla Sky too.
As for the Golden Globes return, the world says, whatever. I used to love the Oscars but over time I have grown to loathe all entertainment awards shows.
Tom is signally the woke have a home in Scientology.
Who better to be his new servants? Smart move.
Has he done anything worthy of note since “Risky Business”?
His Jack Reachers and last 2 MI’s were good. American Made is quite good.
Did he throw those awards over a fence or something?
I would not compare the two. How insane to even do so.
Tom Cruise : winner at movies and loser at life. His movies are excellent. Some scenes in Jerry Maguire are brilliant. Sadly, his religion is garbage. Scientology creates slaves who are trapped in San Bernardino. Cruise funds it.
Marc Headley talks about he was stuck in Scientology in San Bernardino for three years. He planned with his father to have a motorcycle hidden on the ranch which he started one night, drove quickly away and immediately got followed by two black Scientology Suburbans. The CHP saw him and escorted him at high speeds to a safe meeting place with his father. Cruise should make a movie about Headley but won’t, because he is a loser at life.

He ought have left the awards on the ground and thrown himself over the fence. NOBODY would have missed him.
Somebody starred in more top movies, but to prove it is a waste of time.
Every time I see TC has a new movie, and back to his first exploits in them, I doubted if they were worth watching. I do not do that anymore, as he has a near 100% record of watchable movies, with some great ones. He is a movie star. Not a great actor, but his movies are a must see. I loved Jack Reacher, the others after, not so much. I am just bored with the action type like this. Even the Keanu Reeves did enough with his first assassin thing.
Tom Cruise, I do not know him but wouldn’t want to. He is though a Top Gun in movies.
Bet his First Church of Appliantology Is pissed. Those were supposed to o fund the Sea Org’s future.
And he’s still doing all his stunts to, or a large majority of them. He was recently seen running on top of a moving train for a new film.
He’s pretty short, though.
Rain Man
The Color of Money (my pick for his best performance)
