Neither the wounded hiker nor the hunter have been identified. The hiker was in serious condition after being shot, officials said, according to KSDK.
Witnesses told KSDK that they believed the shooting was a freak accident and that hikers sometimes wear bright colors to prevent being mistaken for turkey.
The Missouri Department of Conservation was managing a turkey hunt at the time of the shooting, and a sign near the entrance of the trail stated that the hunt was ongoing until 1 p.m, according to KSDK. Sunday is the final day of turkey hunting season in Missouri.

I heard about a painted cow that got shot right in the middle of the “O.”
Always identify the target prior to any shooting. Also, was the hiker off trail or was the shooting on the trail? Why would any hunter set up so close to a hiking trail? I get using it to get to your setup or blind, but one shouldn't be close to a human trail at all.
"Every turkey dies. Not every turkey truly lives!"
No sympathy for the shooter. They should be charged, jailed, and convicted of attempted manslaughter. Failure to properly identify your target is unconsciable.
A lower hit, could have been a “udder disaster”!
LOL. I forgot about that video! It’s still hilarious.
LOL. Maybe I’ll post a “TLM” sign on the road.
Why was he wearing your pajamas?
Where did you go to school in NJ? I grew up in South Jersey and a classmate from junior High told me the very same story!
OW!
We used to hunt in the Mansfield area on a truck farm owned by a Hungarian family till they sold it circa 1958. As far as I recall no one shot his animals but it happened nearby so he was taking no chance. That whole area is subdivisions now. I grew up in maplewood near newark. Different time different era from now.
“I didn’t see anywhere in the article that a firearm was involved. People do hunt turkeys with bows and arrows.”
“”I could hear voices, and then I saw a hunter with a large rifle and dressed head to toe in camouflage clothes,” said a witness, who asked not to be identified.”
We used to have a car dealer in Orange Park FL that dressed up like that for his commercials. Chicken Man.
He eventually grew out of it. Lol
Hmmm...
Not that I'm 100% paranoid (just 95%), maybe this was a PETA setup that went bad...
Wild peacock.....
Where do all the city-slickers go to hunt during hunting season? To the rural areas. Dumb ba$$-tards are downright idiotic and therefore dangerous to themselves. A biggy? Hunting a farmer’s land without first asking! Fired many a round to hustle them fools off our land!
guineas!
My thoughts exactly. Finger doesn't even go on the trigger unless you are sure of the target.
Those are guineas. They make turkeys look like geniuses by comparison.

I grew up in Florida and a classmate from junior High told me the very same story!
