Where did you go to school in NJ? I grew up in South Jersey and a classmate from junior High told me the very same story!
We used to hunt in the Mansfield area on a truck farm owned by a Hungarian family till they sold it circa 1958. As far as I recall no one shot his animals but it happened nearby so he was taking no chance. That whole area is subdivisions now. I grew up in maplewood near newark. Different time different era from now.
