The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Saw this recently. Had no idea a snail could eat so much!

Question: what is (are) the most voracious garden pest(s) gardeners have to deal with?
I’m going to say that was sped up JUST A LITTLE, LOL! Mr. Snail could EAT so much because that was filmed over a month’s time, I’ll bet! ;)
Worst garden bugs for me? Tomato Horn Worms, hands down. Second? Flea Beetles. Little tiny black beetles that put holes in pepper and eggplant leaves, crippling production.
Other people will say Vine Borers or whatever those other bugs are that you find on the underside of squash and pumpkin leaves - having a ‘Senior Moment’ right now...
I bet more people have animal damage than bug damage if they’re gardening organically, inviting the Assassin Bugs in to do their thing, or are careful about crop rotation and health - usually you get more bugs when you have weak and/or stressed out plants due to poor care or weather extremes. Somehow the bad bugs just KNOW when there’s an issue with that and move in for the kill! Jerks.
Indoor plants? Fungal Gnats. Annoying, but if you cut back on your watering, they usually go away. They like a moist environment.

You are both amazing and inspiring!
Qiviut Nice Picture of your garden! I see that your Cucumber trellis folds up nicely. Good deal!
But I did not mean you could count on it!
Mixed colors.
That is a great picture of them!
Those hornworms eat fast.
The other corn patch has to wait until the garlic is ready to harvest. I am concerned about one of the garlic patches, as it has already started to turn yellow, no scapes yet - not a good sign.
Have a melon beyond ready to transplant, but it's just not warm enough. We have trouble getting melons to maturity anyway. Melons and squash just don't do well.
My taters are all done. Hubby still has a bunch he hasn't planted yet. He finally did get the Jerusalem artichokes planted. I just finished canning 2 cases of stewed tomatoes from the romas we grew a year or so ago(they were in the freezer).
I found some corn in the bottom of the chest freezer from 2014. I vacuum packed it - I could not believe it was still good-but it was great. We had some good deals at the grocery store on meat this week, so tomorrow, I am going to be canning some meat.
Loving my new all american canner - made in the USA.
Yikes, and camouflage experts, too!
I think I’ll stick to the farmers market!
That is the most fabulous tomato photo ever. I am so stealing that. Tell her Hi and thanks. I have a jigsaw app and that will make a great puzzle.
Awesome cukes.
I can do cukes cuz wild turkeys won’t eat the plants. Pricklies on the vines.
Finished 2nd full week of garlic mustard harvest. About 6 barrels. Sending some off to town dump. Maybe another week
States put an ordinance, banning cultivation of stuff. Then, municipalities grow it on town property. Absentee landlord town hall. Let their landscaping turn toxic
Happy TheErnFormerlyKnownAsBig Birthday to all the Freeper moms today.
‘Diva’ is such a good cucumber!
This year I am growing ‘Sweeter Yet’ and ‘Summer Dance.’ Both are the long, English-type of cukes. We eat a lot of cucumbers fresh and I like to make Bread & Butter Pickles, versus dill.
I’m behind you by a few weeks for cukes.
Thanks, Pete! :)
