That said, if it is one of the LED signs, they can be quite bright. Certainly I don’t like them when I am driving around at night.

umpires are egregiously bad across the board this season. it’s as though they’re p*ssed off about the robo-ump experiment in MiLB, and they (and their union) are itching for a confrontation. suicidal tactics, if you ask me.
having said that, joe west, cb bucknor, and angel hernandez are easily the worst three umpires in baseball.

I had trouble watching on a computer screen telling if the ball was caught or not. It had to be difficult to see. They should probably disallow illuminated scoreboards at field level, where they can interfere with the players’ and umpires’ vision.

There was a one eyed NFL player decades ago - during a game, one of the referees asked him what he would do if he lost that remaining eye, he said: “Then I will become an official”.

One of the best exchanges I ever heard when a coach would "confront" an umpire about a bad call occurred in my son's 18U baseball game.
This one umpire was the worst I had ever seen and BOTH coaches were beside themselves to the point of probably thinking "oh well, it's bad for both teams". Especially the ball and strike calls.
Well, our coach finally had enough in about the 5th inning and calmly asked the umpire for "time". The umpire granted the time out. Then our coach calmly asked if they could talk. The umpire granted him permission to come out and talk. Our coach proceeded to say very loudly so the people in the stands could hear but he wasn't yelling.
"Sir, I have spent the last 8 months of my life teaching these young men the difference between a ball and a strike and YOU have just ruined all my work in 1 short hour".
He calmly turned away from the umpire and went back to the dugout. The ump just stood there dumbfounded. All of us in the stands thought that was the funniest thing we had ever heard and the other coach was quietly clapping in his dugout. I think he was impressed and agreed with the sentiment. Good stuff!

Any MLB umpire who wants to continue working as an empire should fiercely work to have Hernandez removed.
