Angel Hernandez has certainly lived up to his reputation in the first month of the 2021 MLB season.

During the Indians-Royals game in Kansas City Tuesday night, Hernandez admitted that he essentially guessed on a play in the bottom of the third that had to be overturned due to his mistake, which he said was a result of getting “blinded by the outfield scoreboard.”

With runners on second and third, Royals catcher Salvador Perez hit a deep fly ball to right-center that landed between two outfielders on the warning track. But Hernandez, who was stationed at first base, signaled that the ball had been caught.

"I miss Leslie Nielson."

It's odd when you catch him in an old, serious movie role - all I can think of is Police Squad.

Some of the umpires in NFL are actually CEO’s of companies in their day jobs.

I heard that during one game long long ago.

Is that true? I can’t imagine it is a full-time job, working only sundays during the season.

When I was little, I was my dad and I watched one of the Saturday games on TV and there got to be a real rhubarb between one of the mangers and the home base Ump over a strike call. It ended with the manager taking the bat and acting like it was a blind mans cane.

Guess how long it took the ump to give him the heave ho.

I do not remember who the heck it was anymore. LOL!

Wasnt for the umps, there wouldnt be no baseball.

One of the best exchanges I ever heard when a coach would "confront" an umpire about a bad call occurred in my son's 18U baseball game.

This one umpire was the worst I had ever seen and BOTH coaches were beside themselves to the point of probably thinking "oh well, it's bad for both teams". Especially the ball and strike calls.

Well, our coach finally had enough in about the 5th inning and calmly asked the umpire for "time". The umpire granted the time out. Then our coach calmly asked if they could talk. The umpire granted him permission to come out and talk. Our coach proceeded to say very loudly so the people in the stands could hear but he wasn't yelling.

"Sir, I have spent the last 8 months of my life teaching these young men the difference between a ball and a strike and YOU have just ruined all my work in 1 short hour".

He calmly turned away from the umpire and went back to the dugout. The ump just stood there dumbfounded. All of us in the stands thought that was the funniest thing we had ever heard and the other coach was quietly clapping in his dugout. I think he was impressed and agreed with the sentiment. Good stuff!

Angel Hernandez is one of the worst if not the worst umpires in baseball. It’s between him and Joe West. But on watching this, if Hernandez is on first base I did not see him signal at all nor did any of the umps. Maybe it is the angle I saw.

Any MLB umpire who wants to continue working as an empire should fiercely work to have Hernandez removed.

That era’s KC tight end Fred Arbanas played a lot of his career with just one eye. (A sucker punch outside of a bar took his eye iirc.) He just passed away a few weeks ago.
