Two men face second degree murder charges after alleged street racing turned deadly in Columbus County.
It happened on April 16th near Sandyfield.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol crash report, James Tyler Brown was riding his lawnmower east on Old Lake Road just before 8:30 p.m. The lawnmower did not have on lights.

I imagine the top speed for that old mower was five miles per hour. It might have taken an hour and a half or more for me to get to the liquor store, but get there I did.
I admit, I did not click on and read the article until after my previous comment.
I thought from the headline they the man was racing the lawnmower on the road when he was hit and killed.
Seen a lot of idiots street racing and riding lawn tractors... hell, even lawn tractor street racing for that matter... Usually in the dark and typically in the general vicinity of the ABC Store. One thing is certain though. There is no racial discrimination with these activities and stupidity in general.

I looked at the article, and there was no mention of street racing except that one car passed another and hit the mower. Exhibition of speed, reckless driving, involuntary manslaughter, possible murder 2, much more. But I can’t figure out where the street racing thing came in as it was not verified by LE in the article or the description of the accident.
And how much does driving on a public road without lights come into play? Besides driving a slower vehicle like a bicycle or a mower on a public uncontrolled road is insanity anyway at night with or without lights)

The car that did the passing did not hit/kill the
lawnmower/driver. It was the driver in the correct
lane that hit the mower and killed the driver.
