The mass walkout came after Basecamp chief executive and co-founder Jason Fried published a blog post on Monday explaining new rules adopted by the company, including a ban on "societal and political discussions on our company Basecamp account."

He also announced the end of some "paternalistic" employee benefits, such as fitness and continuing education allowances, and said there would be "no more lingering or dwelling on past decisions."

Exactly right. The wokesters think work is secondary, not the primary reason for their employment.

Just imagine how bad working relationships can be damaged when people have idle the time to unearth political disagreements. That directly impacts productivity so the employer is right to be concerned about it.

I’ve noticed that the Left would talk with everyone about politics. Even while at work. While the Right would usually shut up. Maybe they will say something to one co-worker they’re close to. Otherwise, they’ll shut up the entire time.

Thirty years ago, almost no one working in software development was liberal.

I was there and agree completely with your statement.

I thank the Good Lord Above I'm retired now and don't have to put up with today's "woke" madness.

This story is interesting on a few different levels.

First, both of the founders, and the company, at least before current year, were as woke as any in the software industry, which is notoriously woke.

But then something happened to wake them up: a couple of employees anonymously complained of illegal “harassment” and “discrimintation”, based on an internal chat (which has since been published, and was completely innocuous). The company, and the founders, had to spend time and money on an external HR probe, which found that nothing untoward had occured.

And in reaction to that, they seem to have found a way to smoke out the weirdo wokesters. It might have worked a little better than they had planned, but if you dig into it a little bit, the biggest “damage” seems to have been with the UI team. Is that a loss, or a “don’t throw me in the briar patch” moment? UI is where you put the second stringers so they can’t break anything important, and even better can be outsourced in about, oh, three minutes.

Not sure how they’re doing in the market, but if they can navigate these shoals, they’ll come out stronger on the other side.

They cut off 3/4 of their products, changed their name to the one product left, and haven’t released a new version in 6 years. Dead company walking.

If you think I’m emotionally invested that 100% projection from you. Right there with your assumption this was a conservative move and the liberals are the ones leaving. There’s no indication of that. I’m just pointing out reality. Companies that slash benefits are dying. Always. Every time. Anybody who thinks otherwise is wrong. Always. Every time.

I don’t find it outside the realm of believability that 1/3 of the people who smell the rot in the ship get out. Especially when you look at the who of who left. Head of marketing. Head of support. Head of design. That’s the people who see the math. And the ones who will land on their feet.

Their status quo is going out of business.

But they went to that position 7 years ago, and didn’t get bought. When that move fails, the next step is pretty inevitable.

” I had an in you face dem coworker always batching about pdjt from his election”

I get one of these assholes almost every week. Believe me, if there was no such thing as jial time, I would have smashed their faces in. The most recent one was actually yesterday. Just met the guy at work until he went on about Trump. Officially on my sh*tlist, and the good part about it is that the more people talk, their true politics comes out.

The other “good” part? because I hate leftards and woketards, I will make sure to sabotage his work as much as I can.

Thanks for the numbers. So, 11 people quit and it’s a national newsworthy item. Good grief.

Modern tech is full of the pink hair types. And they are used to getting their way when it comes to politics. Probably the first time anyone told them to suck it up and focus on their jobs. More companies should go back to the old ways.
