Philippine Department of Health (DOH): Reevaluation of newer evidence finds Ivermectin still not recommended as COVID-19 treatment

A reevaluation of newer evidence on ivermectin showed that it is still not recommended as a COVID-19 treatment, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday as two lawmakers gear up to distribute the antiparasitic drug in Quezon City.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a group of experts, composed of medical societies and the government’s health and regulatory agencies, found a “very low quality of evidence” on the use of ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.

The group found “insufficient evidence” to support the use of ivermectin on mild to moderate COVID-19 cases and also recommended against the use of the drug on severe cases, Vergeire said.

“These are all conditional recommendations because of the very low quality of evidence that are existing right now internationally,” she said in an online briefing.

"The push for a local clinical trial for ivermectin is really good so that we would have sufficient and better evidence." She added.

The DOH issued the reminder after Representatives Rodante Marcoleta and Mike Defensor said they would distribute ivermectin for free on Thursday.

Vergeire stressed that only five hospitals have been granted a compassionate special permit (CSP) to use ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.

The DOH has issued several warnings against the use of unregistered drugs amid calls to use ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.

The World Health Organization, United States Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and even ivermectin manufacturer Merck have all advised against the use of ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.

I would likely try to transfer care to a different physician/hospital system at the family request before it ever got to court - an adversarial relationship with a patient/family is good for no one. Failing that I would likely ask the court to appoint a physician that agreed with the treatment and did t mind a judge running their case. Now you have gotten way more thoughtful an answer than you deserve given your nasty name calling and whatever game of gotcha you are playing. Enjoy your evening.

Merck was the originator of Ivermectin, but now it is off patent (generic) and they have a new version ready to launch, probably for big bucks. So now they are against their own old, cheap drug. A 5 day course of 20 Ivermectin pills is available for $17 at CVS or Target, Lack of ethics is one reason why I will not get their Moderna vaccine, nor Pfizer’s.

After an Indian team last July reported favorably on Ivermectin, the Indian city of Lucknow decided to make it readibly available for home use.
The link below is a response April this year to WHO’s idea of restricting Ivermectin only to clinical trials while people are dying like flies. One interesting statement is that Australia has conquered Covid using Ivermectin, zinc, and Doxycyclin, Apparently Ivermectin is safer than HCQ, and Doxycyclin is safer than Azithromycin. However, I would say that HCQ and Azithromycin are safe enough to use with medical advice and supervision, especially in the low doses of the Zelenko Protocol. I wonder if President Trump even saw Dr, Z’s 3/23/2020 letter?
