A reevaluation of newer evidence on ivermectin showed that it is still not recommended as a COVID-19 treatment, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday as two lawmakers gear up to distribute the antiparasitic drug in Quezon City.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said a group of experts, composed of medical societies and the government’s health and regulatory agencies, found a “very low quality of evidence” on the use of ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.
The group found “insufficient evidence” to support the use of ivermectin on mild to moderate COVID-19 cases and also recommended against the use of the drug on severe cases, Vergeire said.
“These are all conditional recommendations because of the very low quality of evidence that are existing right now internationally,” she said in an online briefing.
"The push for a local clinical trial for ivermectin is really good so that we would have sufficient and better evidence." She added.
The DOH issued the reminder after Representatives Rodante Marcoleta and Mike Defensor said they would distribute ivermectin for free on Thursday.
Vergeire stressed that only five hospitals have been granted a compassionate special permit (CSP) to use ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.
The DOH has issued several warnings against the use of unregistered drugs amid calls to use ivermectin on COVID-19 patients.
The World Health Organization, United States Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and even ivermectin manufacturer Merck have all advised against the use of ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment.

Philippine Representative Mike Defensor to fight FDA in court for Ivermectin

Representative Mike Defensor on Wednesday said he is willing to fight the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in court if the regulatory body will order him to stop his Ivermectin community pantry.
“If they will again stop this initiative, I will fight them in court because we are compliant legally,” Defensor told reporters in a virtual meeting.
“On two occasions during the hearings, the FDA said it can be processed. If this will be stopped again and hinder those in need from getting the drug, I will fight them in court. It’s too much,” he added.
Defensor and Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta will formally launch the event “Ivermectin Pan-three” at the Matandang Balara Hall Park, Quezon City on Thursday morning.
In the event, beneficiaries will receive at least three free human-grade Ivermectin capsules upon the prescription of doctors affiliated with the Concerned Doctors and Citizens of the Philippines (CDCph), the group of medical experts pushing for the use of the anti-parasitic drug to treat Covid-19.
Defensor insisted that the free distribution of the said medicine is legal since the compounded Ivermectin, that will be provided, will be coming from Lifecore Bio-integrative, Inc. a licensed compounding laboratory in Quezon City.
The two lawmakers with CDCph will also give Ivermectin capsules to different barangays in Quezon City, the city that remains to have the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila.
Ivermectin worked miraculously for me against the virus.
Denying it’s efficacy is very puzzling.
Speaking of opinions....
Oh, hi, mom. Welcome back.
RE: Ivermectin worked miraculously for me against the virus.
Maybe you can explain your situation to us. I have spoken to some doctors who tell me that with or without Ivermectin, those who have Covid-19 who get well, WILL get well ( or would have gotten well ) regardless of whether or not they use the drug.
Sounds like something the FDA/CDC would say, but I don’t care.
I have some horse paste in my cabinet on standby.
“but only when it agrees with your opinion”
You people like having exclusive control over life and death, don’t you?
Thankfully we have MDs who will prescribe it here. I bet if it is manufactured and shipped in state, that the FDA has zero authority. Constitution and all that.
Must be time for a vaccine roll out.
Yeah. She is a real peach. Be careful. She might decide you aren’t a real doctor as you take time to post on this forum. Of course ivermectin doesn’t work. It’s partial at best. But the flat earthers are going to pound their conspiracy theories down our throats and tell us we don’t know anything.
Whatever.
And a course of ivermectin is about as useful as a cheap bottle of wine against Covid.
Riddle me this: It’s “my body, my choice” when it comes to:
* Killing/aborting a baby up to the moment of birth
* Getting surgery to change one’s gender when one no longer believes he/she is a man/woman
* Getting high on marijuana for leisure in California
* Drinking until I am stone cold drunk
Yet, when it comes to taking a tablet which many reputable doctors and researchers say can cure Covid-19 and which thousands of Covid-19 sufferers swear did work ( just read post #10 above ), it is “NOT my body, NOT my choice” any longer?
Explain this logic to me.
So tiring. So many things more likely to kill us and we fight over this. The left is loving it as a standard tactic is diversion and division.
