Though there are many products where grape flavor can be welcome, such as juices, sodas, popsicles, and (of course) the actual fruit, the one place you’ll rarely find a grape is in your ice cream.
Many conspiracy theories have been floating around as to why the lowly grape has yet to make its way to the creamery, but you might find that the real reason is the simplest of all.
Let’s review.
The main idea running rampant around the Internet blames the absence of grape ice cream on the Food and Drug Administration, which banned the flavor because of pet-related hazards.
The legend goes that Ben & Jerry’s created a delectable grape ice cream which was then served to a lucky customer who loved it so much that they fed a bit of it to their beloved dog, who immediately died of anthocyanin poisoning. (Anthocyanin is a chemical found in grape skins, and it’s poisonous to dogs and cats.)
After the incident, the FDA ruled that no ice cream manufacturer may sell grape flavored ice cream.

I’ve heard of ‘Bear Claw’ and ‘Moose Track’ ice creams, but not ‘Rabbit Ear.’
However, we only need ONE Ice Cream - Cedarcrest Blue Moon. :)
Grape Flavor Matters
Truth.
Even if there are not obvious raisins or grapes, a lot of products include raisin juice and grape juice.
Gotta read every label.
butter pecan... maybe peach.
Typical 2020’s. The guy comes up with an excuse why they don’t make grape ice cream and it’s blatantly idiotic, so even the generally ignorant reporter guy calls him out on it.
So, yeah, let’s not delve into how FOS this guy was, let’s just say we’re not gonna make it anyway because nobody wants it. Even though someone cares enough to interview this jackass about it. Even though someone’s caring enough to make rumors on the internet as to why it’s not available. Even though apparently people seem to be discussing it, we’ll just dismiss it.
I don’t find it unusual. A lot of common everyday fruits are rarely made into an ice cream. I don’t see them selling pear ice cream, Apple ice cream, or cantaloupe ice cream, for example.
“Grape Flavor Matters”
LOL!
So it’s a falsehood when hyperbolic internet researchers claim grapes are banned in ice cream.
Maybe in Japan
grape juice and ice cream, we called it a Purple Cow back in the ‘60s
But th’ interweb machine SAID...
“Anthocyanin is a chemical found in grape skins, and it’s poisonous to dogs and cats.”
We had a 16+ year old dog who LOVED grapes.
It certainly does not explain chocolate.
my dawg ate rocks and that didnt kill him..
For me it’s Soy, and certain red food dyes. Grape/raisins run my BS up. Don’t eat fruits, 1 runs up BS the citrus gets GI tract acid reflux.
Austins in Huntington WV features Grape-Pineapple ice cream. It’s maybe their most popular flavor! It’s delicious.
In the early 60’s Friendly’s (New England based chain) had PB&J (grape) ice cream that you could get either scooped or in a half gallon carton. For me, the jelly part ruined a good PB ice cream.
what an odd WV combo!
