“Anthocyanin is a chemical found in grape skins, and it’s poisonous to dogs and cats.”

We had a 16+ year old dog who LOVED grapes.

We had grapevine we would have to block off because my dog would eat the grapes right off the vine. I fed her other grapes all the time. Never saw an issue.

What they don’t tell you is that anthocyanin is only poisonous if the pooch is allergic to it! We’ve been giving dogs grapes since I was a wee lad, and not a single one ever keeled over let alone had any kidney or liver issues.

It’s a rarity that a dog dies from this type of poisoning, and they have to consume a SUBSTANTIAL amount of it to hurt them. However, if they are susceptible to the effects, death is almost certain.
