A North Carolina man was killed by police who had been called to search his property early Wednesday morning, police said.

The man, identified by relatives as Andrew Brown, 40, was driving away from officers in Elizabeth City when they shot him around 8:30 a.m., according to police and local TV station WAVY.

“During the execution of the search warrant, a citizen who was subject to the search warrant was shot and fatally wounded,” the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

I think NJ was the last state to remove the fleeing felon statutes.

Might be a good idea to wait for some facts.

For all we know, the warrant could have been to look for a body buried in the yard.

There are reasons for warrants. Wait and see.

Also there might have been a cop standing in front of the vehicle.

Shooting a fleeing criminal in the back is a bad idea ordinarily, but there are conditions under which it is required.

Elizabeth City is a long way from Charlotte. They might light up Henderson or Roanoke Rapids.

I think most would agree with that statement, but if those conditions existed, the cops need to get them out in public now!

How much you want to bet that his in-laws say that he was a really good person who would never hurt anyone.

Not necessarily true. There are enough cases of bad cops that you can’t make an assumption that they are always the good guys - and this is coming from someone with multiple family members involved in law enforcement. The best you can do is wait for the facts to come out and hope the cops didn’t screw up here.

Unfortunately, there are more than a few bad cops out there. I’m a motorcyclist (non-Harley) and I’ve been accosted by police while literally sitting on a park bench next to my legally parked motorcycle while reading a book at lunch.

Now, that said, it certainly isn’t “All police accost you at all times” or anything like what BLM purports cops to be - but this graphic just isn’t true. Note: I am not white, nor am I black and cops certainly can’t tell what race I am while wearing full motorcycle gear.

Don’t know. Probably each jurisdiction has rules that change from year to year.

Detroit’s Wayne County a few years ago had one “high speed chase results in death (or serious injuries) to bystanders’ vehicles. Suspect gets away.” after another for months. Uninvolved families in gnarled up, twisted wreckage while criminal made it away safely.

I said (to friends) let the guys go rather than kill people over it in car accidents. The judges let the accused go free anyway, or they win on a technicality in court. Some argued “then why have police?”

“in bystanders’ vehicles” not “to”.

Motorcyclist (not me) not doing anything illegal, has proof he wasn’t doing anything illegal; cop hassles, arrests and assaults the biker on false charges:

https://jalopnik.com/the-dallas-cop-who-arrested-a-biker-with-a-helmet-cam-h-5946658

To say nothing of the Botham Jean or worse the Atatiana Johnson cases - both were not doing anything illegal but sitting in their homes when cops mistakenly shot them.

> Not enough information in the story. <

A news agency likes to be the first one out with a breaking story. I get that. But yeah, you’re right. This story has so little information in it that it’s almost irresponsible.

A relative, Jadine Hampton, told Heavy in an interview that Brown “had a beautiful smile, infectious laugh.” She said he was “a great story teller like a comedian. A wonderful father, who pushed his kids to be honor roll students even though he never finished school.”

Not much more info than the NY Post story aside from WAVY further reported that Brown was shot as he “got into his car and started to drive away, witnesses say.” Neighbors heard “anywhere from 6 to 8 shots,” the television station reported.

Er, sorry, that was the Atatiana Jefferson case. In neither case were any illegal behaviors seen, no illegal materials of note were found, and no grounds for the police to shoot anyone were present.

Said it the other day. The Chauvin verdict means that fro. Now on, every minority that is killed during Investigation or arrest will now result in burned down cities and the cop arrested and convicted regardless of why the perp was killed. Investigations into the incident will be useless because th r msm will dictate the new facts, which Wil, of course always support the narrative of racism. Jurors Will always vote to convict Because they will be too afraid not to.

Obje time justice is a thing of the past. If you are white, you are guilty,. If you are white, that is all the ‘evidence’ that the left need to convict you now.

If you are a minority, laws do not apply to you, you are above the law and can do anything you like when the law shows up

That is our America now

Man fatally shot by sheriff’s deputy in Elizabeth City, North Carolina

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A man was fatally shot Wednesday morning by a sheriff’s deputy in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

There are few details at this time, but the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. while deputies served a search warrant in the 400 block of Perry Street, off Roanoke Avenue.

We’re told the man was shot in his car. ⁦⁦@WAVY_Newspic.twitter.com/CmeNiYVKFh

The man, who family members identified as 40-year-old Andrew Brown, got into his car and started to drive away, witnesses say. That’s when shots were fired by the deputy. Neighbors say they heard anywhere from 6 to 8 shots.

His family says Brown did not carry a gun and didn’t hurt anyone. He was the father of 10 children.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to take over the investigation.

Pasquotank Sheriff Tommy Wooten II is expected to hold a press conference on the incident later today. In the meantime, a crowd has gathered in the area to mourn Brown, protest the shooting and document the scene.

WAVY’s Jason Marks is there and says police have formed a line blocking the area where Brown was killed. His body was placed under a blue tent, and it was still there as of 12:30 p.m., hours after the shooting.

There will also be an emergency Elizabeth City council meeting tonight at 6. WAVY spoke with District Attorney Andrew Womble, who says he is calling for a thorough investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.

In September, the Pasquotank Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of the county’s first 33 body-worn cameras for deputies. It’s unclear if deputies have been issued the cameras yet.

“If the body cameras were on that information needs to be disseminated as quickly as possible in order to make sure justice is served,” said Keith Rivers, the president of the Pasquotank NAACP.

Rivers emphasized how the situation in tense and says law enforcement after the shooting acted like they were in “riot mode.”

“The sheriff has not spoken to anyone out here … this is not the Elizabeth City Police Department, this is the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Department,” Rivers said. “The sheriff needs to address these people. The sheriff needs to talk to community leaders to let us know what is going on so that we can be a part of this process.”

Things are very tense here in Elizabeth City. Lots of emotions. Deputies were serving a search warrant. @WAVY_News pic.twitter.com/JITfoWYuT7
