A North Carolina man was killed by police who had been called to search his property early Wednesday morning, police said.

The man, identified by relatives as Andrew Brown, 40, was driving away from officers in Elizabeth City when they shot him around 8:30 a.m., according to police and local TV station WAVY.

“During the execution of the search warrant, a citizen who was subject to the search warrant was shot and fatally wounded,” the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Shouldn't we start putting the dead person's skin color by their name, so that we can understand whether a city is going to burn that night? We might also include the number of times the victim has been convicted.

Not enough information in the story. He was shot while driving away, yet the story says they were serving a search warrant on the property. If they didn’t have an arrest warrant for him and he was driving away, what was the justification for shooting him? The article does not indicate he was shooting at them, waving a gun or otherwise threatening the cops. Maybe he was and the details just haven’t been released, but just based on the facts in the story, this looks bad for the cops.

Wouldn’t normal procedure be to give chase in a vehicle while radioing dispatch to get other vehicles/cops involved in the chase and possibly block him in somewhere?

I was a police officer in the L.A. region in the 1970s. Department policy was, “You don’t shoot at moving cars.” It made total sense.

Lots of details missing—shot while driving away is akin to shot in the back. Driving away does not suggest fleeing, ec. There was a search warrant, okay, but not an arrest warrant. Why shoot the guy?
