Went to Culvers last week. Burger looked like an elephant stepped on it. Meat was burnt crispy............
We drove through Texas and everyone said “Stop an In-n-Out burger! You’ll love it!” So, in the middle of Dallas we stopped.
It sucked.
I would have said that a few years ago. But the last few times I went to Culvers the food wasn’t very good. Shakes are still great, but the food slipped in quality, really greasy, not very flavorful.
Was in Culver’s 3 weeks ago. Burger was overcooked and dry. Wife’s crispy chicken sandwich was soooooo thin, little meat and a lot of breading. Not impressed. Fries were pretty spot on, but that didn’t save the meal.
Culver’s is delicious but their fries are nothing to write home about.
I like their onion rings though.
From the East Coast and went to San Diego in February to visit my brother. Never tried In-N-Out as they are a West coast chain. So I went to In-N-Out and was not impressed. Hell, Fuddruckers was better than In-N-Out back in the day and Five Guys is better now.
The fries are fresh, peeled and cut in the store. I don’t know what they put in the oil. Meat is fresh too mostly from local area farms (one of the reasons they still aren’t a ‘national chain’). I’m not an In-n-Out fanatic though. Everything there is too salty.
I agree. I prefer Culvers, Whataburger Carl’s Jr. or Freddy’s over In n Out any day.
I’ll take Five Guys.
In and Out is horrible.
Its silly. Judging takeout burgers and fries is like judging Barbeque sauces or Chili - to each his own, taste. Best is what is best to you.
I don’t really “get” the constant drumbeat of complaints about In-N-Out french fries. They peel potatoes, push ‘em through a slicer and then fry them in sunflower oil. Add some salt. That’s it. Those are real french fries. Period. There’s nothing to “fix.” If you don’t like them, then the problem is that you don’t like real french fries. If whatever frozen, sugar-coated, chemically-enhanced potato byproduct served at McDonald’s, Burger King and their ilk is more to your liking, then eat that instead.
In-n-Out is great. Nation's is better, but only found in the greater Bay area.
I had Culver’s a few weeks ago. They put a new one in down town. I think that’s the place they use the thin patties. Had a double with cheese. Was ok. Wendy’s is cheaper and about as good.
Funny how subjective burgers are. Havent been to Culver’s in over 10 years since I moved away from the midwest to TX. They were the best back then with cheddar butterburgers and crinkle cut fries. In n out sucks, both burgers and fries. Shake Shack is probably the best and I dont care about cost since I dont eat them every day.
Love Culver’s! We live about 4 blocks from one. I now make my burgers with the butter buns too. lol
Their cheese curds are wonderful. I prefer them over fries. The shakes are to die for and you can buy pints of the custard to take home. It is a place for much more than burgers, although, I do love a fresh butterburger. If I am ill, I want their soup. :)
My son’s first job was there when he was 14. He is still grateful for that opportunity!
I think I went to an In and Out Burger at some point. Much like any other chain.
Two different kinds of operations. In ‘n’ Out has a limited menu, aggressively priced, including fresh fries, good quality patties (though small, by design, you have to get at LEAST a double).
Culver’s has a full menu (chicken, fish, salads, veggie sides), charges more, and has superior frozen desserts (custard based).
Both have superior, efficient staffs in my experience. In ‘n Out is faster, but Culver’s is faster than others in its bracket (e.g. Steak ‘n Shake, Freddies)
I have never been to Culvers. The appeal of In-N-out, at least to me, is that the burger arrives hot off the grill and the lettuce/tomato/onion is still chilled. So it feels/tastes fresh compared to the other brands (BK/McD/etc) where the burger and fixings may have been setting on a hot shelf for up to 5 or 10 minutes before you get it. Also, the In-N-Out burgers are not pricey.
But to be honest, where I am at now, they just introduced In-N-Out in the last year or so and they are almost always packed. No burger is worth sitting in the car line for an hour.
Big fan of In-N-Out...Always at least once whenever in Las Vegas or West Coast...Waiting for a new Colorado location near me...
Current favorite is Freddy’s Steakburger...
