Don’t forget to paint a moustache onto the Mona Lisa, too.
The skeleton-warrior sequence showed the most improvement. The others were not that impressive.
I wonder how much processor time each took.
I don’t see a difference, but the original is pretty darn good!
The movie still needs a remake. But not with today’s Hollywood; I’m not ready for a gay Jason with a boat full of transexuals.
Its a bit better.
Buy the rights. Given the Hollywood ability to make anything new or creative and merely do PC remakes of old Marvel stuff, Jason and the Argonauts could be re-released to huge success.
It’s amazing what they can do now with old movies from the early 1900s, I figure maybe in about 10-20 years the technology will be such that they can literally make those movies look like they were filmed today on a modern camera.
I haven’t watched it in more than 50 years, but I plan on loading it up and go on a nostalgic ride with the gods!
How about coming up with an original idea rather than messing with one of Ray Harryhausen’s masterworks?
It’s not going to help them if they look at Medusa
He better not mess with Rudolph.
What if the 1963 movie Jason of the Argonauts had smoother stop-motion animation for its effects scenes made by the famous Ray Harryhausen? I used an AI program to interpolate the scene to a higher frame rate to see what that would look like.
You liked a similar video I did about 1933’s King Kong, so I thought I’d do a sequel of sorts.
No real difference. I remember taking my 10 year old to see Peter Jacksons ‘King Kong.’ We both are huge Kong fans and were looking forward to it. When we got out of the movie, I asked him what he thought. My son was disappointed. He said “Honestly dad, the original was much better.” I asked him why? He said that the black and white version made Kong more real. This is why moviesa are being ruined by computers. You can make it all look so realistic, but you can’t give pixels soul.

The stop motion animation when 1984’s Terminator endoskeleton rose out of the fire is still awesome.
Doesn’t look any different to me......................
Eh, it looked ‘cool’ and unreal and very active.
In the day it look amazing (be amazed) especially knowing it was one man’s handiwork.
Computer effects are cold and resemble a video game. Pow pow pow.
I saw a slight difference but the fact that sometime the stop animation positioned the models body/limbs where it would not be in a smooth curving motion and the technique used did not address that, it just filled the gaps in between. To render the statues movement more natural an AI engine would have to be trained to take wire frames and to make them move smoothly and naturally and the another AI would render the 3 dimensional statue over the wire frame shot by shot. Is Harryhausen the man that the sushi restaurant got its name from in the computer animation movie 'Monsters, Inc.'?
The ruins of the acropolis looked just as bad in that intended time period of the movie as they do today.
