The judge in the George Floyd murder case refused a defense request to immediately sequester the jury Monday, the morning after the killing of a Black man during a traffic stop triggered unrest in a suburb just outside Minneapolis.
The request came from the attorney for former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin. Defense attorney Eric Nelson argued that the jurors could be influenced by the prospect of what might happen as a result of their verdict.
“Ultimately, your honor, the question becomes will the jury be competent to make a decision regardless of the potential outcome of their decision,” Nelson said.
Judge Peter Cahill said he will not sequester the jury until next Monday, when he anticipates closing arguments will begin. He also denied a defense request to question jurors about what they might have seen about unrest following Sunday’s police shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center. …

Probably the judge thinks that a guilty verdict is needed to spare the city the consequences of an innocent verdict. Maybe he is channeling Caiaphas: “it is better for one man to die than for the whole people to perish” (John 11.50).
>>is this so they will get scared to death of what will happen to them?<<
Yes.
That's the way show trials work.
It’s raining in Boston.
GROUNDS FOR MISTRIAL
Right on both counts.
Color makes no difference when it is cops vs. thugs. The state/media always sides with the thugs if it pushes their political narrative. Remember the black cops in the Freddie Gray trial?
Our Founding Fathers were shockingly brilliant.

It’s a home game.
So the basic “John Roberts” effect.
I guess the judge wants the jurors to fully absorb what will happen to them if they don’t vote to convict. Every juror already knows that their lives are over if they vote to acquit. The latest riots just drive that point home some more.
The jurors must have understood the pressures from day one. Did they WANT to be on duty? All one has to do to avoid it is to express an opinion at the get-go. There is no way I’d be there.
Morries Hall:
Defense wanted the State to explain why no immunity. judge said the didn’t have to explain
Obviously they are not going to charge him with 3rd degree murder for selling the drugs
They are not giving him immunity because they Don’t want him to testify
I wonder if that can also be grounds for appeal
They is now some rumblings that the other person in the car will also plead the 5th (Ms Hill)

BREAKING: Minneapolis Mayor declares state of emergency and enacts curfew after Brooklyn Center, MN police shooting of Daunte Wright
He should have declared a mis trial when BLM said burn the town if the verdict is not to their liking.
One jurir ios from Brooklyn Center?
Things are going to get really hot for the jurors. The prosecution evidence in the case does not support murder. Floyd killed himself with a fentanyl overdose:

The Minnesota Governor’s asinine statement that reads like a BLM talking point should alone be enough for a mistrial.
I’m pretty sure there’s nobody on that jury that matches my demographic.
Defense set to take turn in ex-cop’s trial in Floyd death
Once the defense takes over, Chauvin attorney Eric Nelson is expected to have his own experts testify that it was Floyd’s drug use and bad heart, not Chauvin’s actions, that killed him.
The defense hasn’t said whether Chauvin will take the stand.
The jury gets to decide which expert testimony to give more weight.
