ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski Wednesday became the first U.S. senator in more than 50 years to win an election with a write-in campaign as she established an unassailable lead over conservative Tea Party movement favorite Joe Miller.
The result of the last undecided Senate race of the November 2 congressional elections does not alter the makeup of the chamber, where Republicans picked up six seats but the Democrats retained their majority.
Murkowski had a lead of about 10,000 votes with only 752 ballots left to be counted, a state election official said on Wednesday. According to the latest figures from the state’s division of elections, Murkowski has 100,868 votes to Miller’s 90,468.

That new girl needs to tour the villages making promises and handing out money,no joke.
Now the best for last: My son did a boat trip down Yukon with about a dozen people with LIsa and her husband; He really liked her; said she was super nice. I thought I was going to have the big one and hit the roof, ha.
Don't you ever count Lisa out; I remember Joe Miller too well; have his sign in my shed. People should try to remake Lisa into what they want with $$$$; how Alaska works.
Rank choice makes it interesting
Hey, April fools was a few days ago.
The 2021 republican voter is NOTHING LIKE the 2010 version. NO ONE who voted for Trump in 2020 is going to vote for Murkowski. And 95% of Republicans voted for Trump.
Murkowski won in 2010 because of the COMBINED votes of Democrats and moderate Republicans. There are no moderate Republicans left today. Murkowski will get Democrat votes and nothing else.
I seriously doubt Alaskans would be so utterly stupid to elect her again. But if that ever happened, I’d support giving Alaska back to Russia.
Poor joe Miller. That had to be embarrassing.
Sorry. Getting old...but was it a primary? Forgive if wrong but main point is that write-in win just sounds wrong to me.
I forget, is this the campaign where they handed out bracelets to make sure the name of the evil incumbent was spelled correctly for the write-in vote??
That trick won’t work the second time around. The Republicans in Alaska are very fired up to dump her and they will.
They will be ready for fake write in votes this time. BTW she didn’t really win the last time, Joe Miller did not have enough troops to watch everywhere and some election boards accepted anything beginning with an M as a write in for her. Murcowshit was caught but NOT rejected. It won’t happen this time.
Hopefully, Alaska now has a sore loser law that prohibits this.

Disturbing in a Pelosi sort of way
No, she beat Joe Miller as a write-in in 2010 after losing to him in the primary. She beat him again in 2016 when he ran as a Libertarian.
Murkowski never ran against Palin in any election.
IIRC, didn’t a judge have to rule that any spelling close to “Murkowski” was good enough?
Trump only won 52.3% of the vote last year which was a very small improvement from 2016. AK isn’t nearly as conservative as people make it out to be. There’s a robust population of government freeloaders up there.
While it would probably be more difficult for her to repeat her previous write-in campaign with a Dem on the ballot....if the Dems refuse to put anyone on the ballot, it’s likely very doable, unfortunately.
Yes, I think that is how it ended up. Even with the bracelets.
Ok
Thanks for the clarification.
You should see how I messed up the bird board.
There is no party primary this time. She only has to finish in the top 4 jungle primary in order to get on the ballot for the general election. She's the incumbent Senator with the name Murkowski - she'll almost certainly get at least 4th place to get on the general election ballot.
There is no write-in general election campaign this time. The top 4 finishers in the jungle primary move on to the general election.
