A New Hampshire teacher is now one of the oldest women in America to give birth. Barbara Higgins, 57, welcomed a baby boy on March 20.

“We’ve beat the odds,” her husband Kenny Banzhoff told NBC10 in Boston. “I’m so proud of her, she’s been a trooper through the whole thing.”

In 2016, the couple tragically lost their 13-year-old daughter Molly to an undiagnosed brain tumor. After her death, Banzhoff and Higgins decided to have a third child.

Sorry honey, Abraham’s wife Sarah beat you by a few decades awhile ago. And before her there were many wives of the descendants from Adam who bore many children after reaching 100.

I not only can imagine it, I am living it. I am 62, and my wife is 58. I have lost both of my sons in the last 3 years,My youngest in a 4 wheeler accident 2 years ago and my oldest last year due to depression and not being able to get into rehab during the china flu crises (VA would not accept new patients to rehab.) They have left behind 6 beautiful kids, and due to the reprobate lifestyle of one of the mothers, My wife and I have obtained legal custody of 2 awesome 3 and 8 year old boys. Yes it is hard, especially with the 3 year old. But they sure make me feel young again, and honestly have helped to fill the giant hole in our lives. Yes, God willing, I will be 77 when the youngest graduates high school. But if the only alternative is for these boys to have to go to a foster home, then there is no alternative at all. I love these boys just as fiercly as I loved my sons. I cant imagine things any different than they are now.

Amen. I am 51 with two teenagers and am whooped most days. Could not imagine doing this at 75. Nor would I expect my older children to raise a sibling.

“Launch” a child who has become twenty?

I and most of my friends left home at 17 or 18, upon graduation from high school.

That was the age of plenty of soldiers who hit the beaches at Normandy.

The average age for marriage for a woman was 17 or 18 about a hundred years ago.

It is regrettable that young people now have to be “launched.”

I didn’t take it as rude. Wasn’t my intention to act like it was or be negative towards you. It was more just my opinion on the topic. We all have to walk this life best we can. It’s worked for you and your wife for 20+ years. That’s good for you both. Changing names is a pain.

I always wonder if they changed their name and it doesn’t work out can you force them to change back ;)

As the only child of a man who was 62 when I was born, lost my mother when I was 13 and father when I was 19, I don’t think that having a child at 57, is a great idea. This child is apt to lose both his parents while still quite young. That can be VERY challenging for a young person. The good news is that he does have an older sibling. (He is their third child and one died at 13 YOA.)

While I realize that it is up to the child to deal with his circumstances, it can be VERY difficult. I base this on personal experience.

Thank you for sharing & I’m so sorry about the loss of your sons..
Those grandsons of yours are blessed to have such amazing grandparents & I’m sure tough but you’re right, kids keep you young! Gotta stay active & healthy to keep up with boys.
Life often takes some mysterious turns and you can’t make sense out of things that don’t make sense..you just wake up each morning & do the best you can.
God Bless you and your family

"Lighten up Francis."

Okay. I'll go kiss my wife and then play the electronic drums she bought me. Cool?
