Joe Biden's Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has caused outrage among voters by touting a plan to tax Americans for every mile they drive. The Biden administration is considering taxing motorists by the mile to fund their $3 trillion climate-friendly "green" infrastructure plans.

But electric cars are not taxed at all. Why should only gas powered car owners bear all the burden?
I don’t think Pete’s circle is all electric car owners. Because currently EV owners pay no tax at all. With the mileage based tax, EV’s will be sharing the tax burden.
Nebraska use to do vehicle inspections. Tax/fee and all. Probably implement this to record mileage. I hate the left.
Haha you are living in a fog. The device DOT will install in your car will log the mileage based on GPS readings. Not from your odometer. The same way my drive safe app from state farm works.
Almost everyone here apparently is fine with letting electric car owners pay nothing.
Death & taxes...no way to get away from them.
Gas is already taxed

And prices are already skyrocketing. Will be more now that we’ll be becoming dependent on other nations again.
Add the electric & hybrid car drivers too!
That’s right. Of course, what he then should have done is found the entire law unconstitutional because it did not originate in the House, as the Constitution requires all revenue bills to do. Instead, it originated in the Senate...which he conveniently ignored.
I guess the precedent to tax behavior, however, has been established.
And what else will that device record? Location, speed, etc.? And then, with that, who has access? Nothing like a bit of police state intrusion.
I’m waiting for the white privilege tax. A friend of mine works down in DC, he told me last month the Biden occupation was pushing around an idea of a white privilege tax to pay for reparations of blacks. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it be so! LOL LOL! We need as many people as possible ticked off at this idiot and the neo-Marxists.
This will create more “food deserts”
Dollar General will have to stop expanding into the far reaching areas like they are now.
These people have no idea how they hurt people with what they do.
If this were to replace state and federal gas taxes, fine as this would then require non-gas or diesel cars to pay their fair share of road costs. And, how about requirement that all of these mileage taxes go solely to building and maintenance of roads used by those cars, thus no walkways, no bikeways, not other diversions.
Democrats - never met a tax they didn’t love. They just want more and more money, more and more control.
They'll force you to go to the DMV to get your license plates / license stickers renewed. They'll send someone out to record your mileage at the DMV as part of the process to renew your plates and add the tax to your license plate fees every year.
Alternatively they can require an "inspection" on a yearly basis where they record your mileage and impose the tax too.
And if you think you can skirt the tax every year, just wait until you go to sell your car or trade it in. They'll tax you on the unreported mileage and refuse to transfer the title to a new owner / car dealership until you pay it.
They're sneaky, thieving bastards they are!
“They only way they can do this is to keep track of your odometer, OR GPS track you ...”
Exactly. I’ve heard that new cars have a recorder of some sort built into them. That alone is bothersome.
I’ll bet if a mileage tax were enacted, electric car owners would be exempted.
Every single thing these Dims are doing proves to me that they want to destroy the entire middle class.
They want it all.
Marxists never say “that’s enough.”
When something is taxed you get less of it. This move should encourage those who CAN work from home to do it more often or permanently.
Been saying this for years. I think it's about the only way left to get the idiot government's attention. Start with truck deliveries of agricultural products to major cities, especially D.C., San Fransicko, Chicago, L.A., Seattle, Portland, NYC etc.
