A woman says she was left penniless in her bank account after a coffee run and months later she's still fighting to get her money back.
Lisa Angello says she stopped in at a Colorado Starbucks for a drink and was shocked to get a notice later from her bank warning that she was overdrawn.
The problem was that the $5.70 was actually entered twice in the charge machine, making the amount charged $5,705.70.
Angello says she assumed the problem would be an easy fix but she says the error has turned into a months-long back-and-forth between her, USAA Bank, and the coffee company.
"I am caught in the middle. No one has my back, and no one's listening, I want my money returned to me," Angello says.
She says the bank has put money back into her account as a provisional credit so she can pay her bills, but the process to actually have her money problem fixed continues.
"And it doesn't even matter whose fault it is anymore. I just want it rectified. I want it made right," Angello says.

I was going to post the same thing if no one else had.
Using a debit card to pay for things is a terrible risk.
Don’t EVER use a debit card .
She needs to hit the salad bar.
Is she a democrat?
I remember years ago hearing of the pitfalls of debit cards so I never got one.
::Starbucks has been robbing you a little at a time, for a long time....::
~~~~
Exactly. I am shocked at how many people who really should be watching their pennies waste it on this junk.
She used a debit card..
I charge everything on a charge card and pay it off every month.
I saw a video today that told of the danger of using debit cards. Like here, when the money is taken, getting it back is a fight.
A charge card you can dispute charges, I have been notified if a shady charge is happening (usually in real time) and I get cash back (a discount) on everything I buy.
It’s very rare that I use cash.
Dunkin Donuts.
Because fat-shaming is so important to this story, right?
Guy in Office Space movie: “Darn it. I always mess up with the decimal places. They’re gonna notice this one.”
Black, like her men?
We’ve used USAA for about four decades.
Great Bank, great insurance, both auto & homeowners.
Try them!
The Small Businessman’s Association guy can get his coffee any way he wants it.
I pay my bills using auto-pay but I don't let the billers pull directly, I set my account up to send them a check every month. They never get direct access to my bank balance. Same with debit cards, I use it at the ATM but that's it.
Or..
Tim Hortons..
The Canadians got the coffee right..
And it’s not swiss mocha cocah with a twist..
It’s coffee, and it’s good
I just shopped home and auto insurance.
USAA was one of the companies I got a quote from.
There homeowners insurance was more than I pay for home and auto... Way more..
I tried them several years ago... same thing..
And that is relevant why?
a letter from a lawyer to the franchise owner that requests they return the money that also includes the cost of the lawyers time would probably get this moving...I am betting that this is a franchise with a cashflow problem. If this was a corprat store this would of taken care of.
But what does that have to do with the story?
If we can’t all just get together and bitch and moan, what’s the point? YERNOPHUNANYMORE. /s
