E ating processed meats such as bacon every day could increase the risk of dementia by 44 per cent, a new study has found.
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, examined nearly half a million people with an average age of around 57, who had signed up to the UK Biobank project.
The findings showed eating 25g of processed meat — the equivalent of one bacon rasher — raises the risk of dementia by 44 per cent.
Meat-eating has previously been linked to dementia risk, but the researchers believe that this is the first study of its kind to find a link between the amount of meat consumed and the chance of developing the disease.
Huifeng Zhang, of the University of Leeds, who led the study, said: "Worldwide, the prevalence of dementia is increasing and diet as a modifiable factor could play a role.

That’s what dogs are for......................
The lie is that bacon is not “processed” meat.
You take a pork belly and smoke it.
The marinade and salting could introduce unhealthy elements, but those are optional.
Nudging us toward soylent green.

I was thinking it was a slice................But who eats ONE slice of bacon?...................
BS. Did they actually find a thousand people or so who actually ate that every day? Over a period of how long? EVERY DAY? Is there ONE person in the universe who eats that much bacon EVERY DAY?
BS.
Try cooking it in the oven. Lay out flat on a sheet pan and bake at 350 until desired crispiness. No mess at all. Pour the fat off and keep it. One teaspoon added to a can of green beans when you warm them is heavenly.
Ack! You need to choose your friends more wisely.
There's a whole lot more conjecture here, it seems, than data. For starters, there are a whole lot more ways of 'processing' than just one. Much of the processing today is injecting chemicals rather than old fashioned smoking. I happen to like the old fashioned type far better than the chemical ones. What are the chemicals? Which is worse? How did they separate just the 'processing' from the other factors? How did they separate bacon from the other factors? Etc.
Is this the same chinee researcher who said that one egg yolk could reduce your life span by 3% or some stupid thing like that?
What is a rasher?
They way they fix bacon in the island one slice is enough to lube you for the rest of your life. Dripping with grease as with most things on the English Cooked Breakfast.
Yupper...
a thin slice of bacon.
"two rashers of lean bacon"
They say 'rasher' to sound smart. Us little people say 'slice'.
Per Billy Gates. /s
More like breakfast pork chops.
A Chinaman in England, yeah, I'll buy that.
Even tofurky bacon?
Just another dumb "government financed"....What do you want for an answer....survey.
processed meats such as bacon
********
Thus other meats are included also as I read the info. It doesn’t
speak to them through.
Thanks! So, it can be a thin slice or 3-4 slices. That’s not much. Most people down here seem to like a pound at a time. :-) I rarely eat bacon but if I do it’s a slice.
I learned something.
