The Woke irony is this body commentary came chiefly from rock journalists who are leftists by and large.
I never understood why they attacked Ann...I mean, it wasn't like she'd ever date these POSs. All the left knows is destruction.
The proof is in the pudding. She can STILL belt it out without the band tuning down.

Ann's status is secured. She has nothing to prove to anyone. She and her sister are Rock N Roll Hall of Fame members.
People are going to hate no matter what.

IIRC, Nancy Wilson was required to audition to join the band.
She played Yes’ “Roundabout” on guitar.
She passed.

I remember Heart at the height of their popularity and reading the criticisms of her weight gain. I was disgusted by what I was reading, even as a teenager.

It is not for us to be snowflakes. Forget the psychopaths. Develop healthy habits. Laugh at the jokes, because there are jokes about every type.

Another one from the 80s was Alison Moyet of the band Yaz (sometimes known as Yazoo). They were pretty popular in the New Wave circuit, not to Heart level of popularity tho. And probably didn't get there, because she was plus sized. And plus sized female singers were not going to get real far in 1980s MTV land. But a great band if you are into 80s New Wave.

I never cared for her screechy, overwrought vocal style. Kind of like Janis Joplin lite. Can you imagine dating a woman like Janis Joplin? Yuk.

A little plump but an attractive woman. Her critics were probably twice her size and envious of her slimness.

The height of the body shaming coincided with the girth of her physical existence.
I dont care if you're fat and I bought all of your records so Shut up and sing Ann.

Ann wasn’t criticized for being ‘real,’ she was criticized for being fat. People who heard Heart on the radio and were attracted by the music turned away disappointed when they saw how obese Ann allowed herself to become. Ann has no one to blame but herself, she ruined her life one mouthful at a time. It’s a damn shame.

Couple points.
When government completely takes over healthcare they start imposing restrictions on receiving healthcare such that you have to be in certain weight ranges to be eligible for surgeries.
Like any business, appearance is part of the product. All things being equal, a more attractive product is going to do better than an unattractive product. Being overweight probably reduced sales and cost her some opportunities but she has done well overall. It was her choice in life selections, it was the customers and songwriters choice as well. There is nothing wrong with allowing people choices.

That just rots. Heart plays amazing music and I never cared what any performer looked like.
Have you seen Ann sing Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors for Zepplin?
I can watch it every day and still get shivers.
The video is marred by Bath House and His Manly Beard but just for a second.
Please to enjoy

Seriously, I’m kind of not as sympathetic as I could be. Unhealthy lifestyles create unhealthy results.
Their music was great.
