Another one from the 80s was Alison Moyet of the band Yaz (sometimes known as Yazoo). They were pretty popular in the New Wave circuit, not to Heart level of popularity tho. And probably didn't get there, because she was plus sized. And plus sized female singers were not going to get real far in 1980s MTV land. But a great band if you are into 80s New Wave.

loved her voice. Alison was another in this category, though hers was more of a two-pack-of-Camels voice (but still awesome).
