Medical Groups Push for Cancer Warnings on Alcohol Labels

Alcohol consumption has been on the rise since the pandemic struck, worrying health experts who focus on cancer prevention.

An increase in the number of people drinking at home versus out at bars is a concern for Heather Hayes, the outpatient services supervisor at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Naples.

“What concerns me more is at home drinking and how that has changed because secretiveness and isolation are all factors in addiction,” Hayes said.

Alcohol abuse should be monitored closely, as it can lead to serious health issues and death.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, alcohol is the third-leading preventable cause of death in the United States, behind tobacco and obesity.

Back in October, the American Society for Clinical Oncology along with the American Institute for Cancer Research, the American Public Health Association and several other groups called on the federal government to add a cancer warning to alcohol labels.

Medical experts have long recognized alcohol as a risk factor for various cancers, but a 2017 survey conducted by ASCO of more than 4,000 American adults found that fewer than a third recognized alcohol as a risk for cancer.

The groups’ proposal to the government is outlined in a petition to the Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Trade Bureau.

Hayes said she would like to see this proposal move forward to benefit adults and today’s youth.

“Looking at youth in particular, the longer we can delay that first use of alcohol, then long-term we can influence maybe that cancer risk,” Hayes said.

Wouldn't be easier to have everyone tattooed on their hands with warning:

Warning! Anything you touch or put into your mouth may cause cancer.

...or make you fat, sick, or dead.

I don’t let it lurk in the house. I destroy it via ingestion and liver function.

I admit my alcohol consumption has increased over the last 12 months. But that is only because alcohol is a natural virus killer. I’m guessing, based personal experimental data over the last 12 months, BAL, need to be elevated 0.16 - .20 percent over any 24 hour time frame. It appears to work best between 1900 - 2200 hours (peak level). It’s settled science. I have tested it. I go out in public, don’t wear a mask, then drink alcohol in the evenings. PROOF. IT IS SETTLED SCIENCE.

Send heavy drinkers to AA, as long as it is not “woke.”

We need to ban this dangerous drug.
