Rochester News Man Set on Fire at Lyell Avenue Apartment, Dies at the Hospital Mar 16, 2021
The man who was burned when he was set on fire at a Lyell Avenue apartment has died at the hospital.
Two boys -- ages 16 and 14 -- were arrested this week for the attack on Friday.
Police say the teens sprayed the man with a flammable liquid as he sat in a chair, then lit the man on fire.
The unnamed victim had second- and third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body.
WHAM1180's Bob Lonsberry reports the man was mentally ill, and the 14-year-old had a long juvenile record.

My impulse is to say ‘If your teenage son is walking around burning innocent people to death just for kicks, that means you have failed as a parent!”
But, it’s not always that parent’s fault. Sometimes kids do make friends with the wrong crowd. That crowd or group or gang becomes their real family. They operate as pack animals do. Zero impulse control.
Then, there is that instance of a demented young mind.
Sometimes scrambled by alcohol and drugs, other times malformed by untreated mental illness. Once again, zero impulse control. Short term thinking only.
