Surgeon Destroys Myth: ‘If Masks Don’t Work, Why Do Surgeons Wear Them?’
CNS News ^ | March 10, 2021 | Dr Jim Meehan

(...)

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve read hundreds of studies on the science of medical masks. Based on extensive review and analysis, there is no question in my mind that healthy people should not be wearing surgical or cloth masks. Nor should we be recommending universal masking of all members of the population. That recommendation is not supported by the highest level of scientific evidence.

Uh...to avoid sneezing or coughing into the patient’s body before the incision is closed?

i use to travel a lot. 2-4 times a week. work had me going 80+ hrs a week and couldn’t afford to be sick. as such, long before covid-19, my practices included washing my hands after being out and not touching my face until i’ve washed up.

over the passed 25+ years i might’ve had a cold once.

that being said, no i generally don’t wash up before taking a leak. tho it wouldn’t matter once i’m home as i normally clean my hands when i arrive (it just feels cleaner). as for taking a leak while being out... i rarely do that and never #2. but i will keep that vector in mind. thx

Good point. I wear sunglasses into every store and have for years. You can catch a virus just as easily through your eyes.

The worry is contamination with bacteria not a much smaller virus. DUH!

So the medical staff DO NOT INFECT the patient-—Not the other way around.

Show me a study from someone you trust.

Nobody.

There’s a great little old book called *How to lie with Statistics*.

It was required reading for one of my college courses, and while dated in its examples, i the point it makes is still valid.

You can *prove* anything you want using a *study*, especially when you set it up the way you want, define the terms as you wish, and then repeat it endlessly until you get the desired results you want.

Then you publish it, and voila‘, you can now claim *A study proves.........*

I would highly recommend reading it.

(great book--and a great teacher for having us read it)

You ought to spend a few minutes quietly reading this mask study from 1981. Then contemplate.

“Hospitals are medically controlled environments, ...”

And THAT is the money shot. Real PPE is specific to the CONTROLLED environment it’s used in.

The ‘official’ word on mask effectiveness is just a valid as their “two weeks to flatten the curve.”

Indeed it is.

“Try opening the thin plastic bags to put in the carrots....

They’re impossible! I usually go to the bottom of the broccoli bin and rub my fingers in that water/mist to get them wet. Or, do a heavy breath ... “HAH” ... in the end of the bag. (Can’t do it if you’re wearing a mask, which I don’t.)

I never lick my fingers for any reason. Which makes it hard to quickly flip through pages in the Bible and win Sword Drills in church.

I hope everyone does what I do when they get home, i.e., wash the produce with Dawn.

Surgical masks keep those big ol’ bacteria in check to prevent wound infections. Tiny little viruses, not so much.

People keep saying that the pandemic is still going because of the number of people who don’t wear masks, but you sure can’t prove that by me.

I have not seen massive numbers or people, or many at all, who do not wear masks. It’s like a religion for most people.

Just what we need is more unwashed hands randomly touching produce just to wet fingers.
——-

That’s an issue at the best of times. I wash my produce at home prior to refrigeration or other storage. That should solve the problem of unwashed hands.

I wash my canned goods (the can) as well...actually most everything that can be cleaned gets cleaned. I did this way before COVID.

The difference from viruses in water droplets and human flatulence is chemistry. A fart is composed of about 59 percent nitrogen, 21 percent hydrogen, 9 percent carbon dioxide, 7 percent methane and 4 percent oxygen. Only about one percent of a fart contains hydrogen sulfide gas and mercaptans, which contain sulfur, and the sulfur is what causes the stink. The type of mask to filter such a gas, called a gas mask, might eliminate the sulfur smell. The problem with such masks is they all have a valve to allow you to expel air out. So, if you had garlic in your breath, the people in the elevator would smell it.

An experiment to try is to eat some garlic, put on your mask and see if people can smell the garlic in your breath.

Thanks for the link. It gave instructions on how to get a better fit for my mask to improve its performance.

most people ignore the subtle smell of garlic.
it’s not strong enough.

the point of my fart analogy was to point out something people could and would recognize readily.

inhale cigarette smoke... put on the mask... exhale. what happens?

obviously, everyone will see and smell the smoke.

wake up

I got my vapor nicotine pipe, inhaled it and put on my mask. I couldn’t see any vapor going through the mask. If that vapor had the C-virus encapsulated in it, the mask worked.
