The Gun Owners’ Action League and others are protesting proposed increases in MassWildlife’s freshwater fishing, hunting and trapping license fees — with some rates jumping 200% or more.
“This dramatic increase request comes at a rather troubling time,” the league said in a statement. “It is GOAL’s opinion that before we agree to any further fee increases, some serious issues need to be addressed.”
Under the proposal, a fishing license for a Massachusetts resident would increase from $22.50 to $40 per year. The costs of licenses and permits to hunt bear, turkey, pheasant, waterfowl, small game and deer, including archery and muzzleloader seasons, would increase from $47.70 to $160. A complete list of the proposed fees, which would go into effect next year, can be found on the MassWildlife site.

I’d pay a grand for a Masshole hunting license - with no bag limit.
Oregon resident fishing license is currently $46, do I can’t muster much sympathy.
Soon... You will have the right to keep and bear arms. You just won’t be able to afford it.
Ron White summed it all up for me... “...it’s early in the morning, it’s cold and I don’t want to go...”
I hunted ducks a couple of times with a guy whose wife couldn’t understand how he could get out of a warm bed at 4 AM on a drizzly November morning to go sit in the mud and wait for sunrise. So, she went with him. Once.
I miss the simpler times of licensing in PA. Used to be you bought a hunting or fishing license that covered about everything. Over the years, a la carte, species specific stamps and tags and ever confusing boundary limitations have made a PHD in deciphering regulations a requirement to stay within the law. They wonder why interest is waning. In PA, the basic adult resident hunting license is cheap enough, around $20 but the add-ons can start to add up; a pheasant permit costs more than the basic license. http://read.nxtbook.com/pgc/huntingtrapping/20202021/license_availability.html
Just paid $37 for my all waters license in CT. And $64 for Maine out-of-stater fishing. They’re all expensive around here.
Wildlife management has become money management.
How can we raise the most money
That is the plan. It is along the lines of what the National Socialists did to the Jews in the 1030s. They taxed them until they got all their money, then they began exterminating them. That is what is about to happen to the gun owners, hunters, and anglers. the judas goats will tell them not to worry, everything is going as usual and they will believe them. Until it is too late.
The King will collect his due for your hunting in the Royal Forests. The Shire Reeve will enforce the King’s edicts.
Seasoned citizens hunt and fish for free in MO. Have to pay extra for deer, turkey, and trout tags. And of course federal waterfowl stamps.
I recently paid $55 for a two-year fishing and Trout Stamp in Georgia. I do know that the majority of the money does go back to our DNR.
Northern states east of the Mississippi have issues with deer hunting.....I think it’s a combo of city slickers who shoot anything and libtards
Plus more public land leasing clubs with rules ....shoot an off the rule buck where I hunt it’s 500 bucks in the kitty....they might give a little if it’s an excited kid....button buck is a grand....don’t shoot yearlings and you won’t get that one
Low harvest rates and poor buck management ...up north comparatively
What surprises me is Maine New Hampshire and Massachusetts are similar harvest wise
I woulda figured Maine out front ....and New Hampshire
And Vermont doesn’t harvest more than Connecticut....pretty much which sorta supreme given Vermont has more sparse space
Even Rhode Island manages to snag a few thousand ...
It’s cultural no question of that
Hunting in the south and Rockies and parts of the Midwest is more part of the culture
It crosses racial and socioeconomic lines with ease
You get older you rationalize “hey the deer do actually move around during the day”
Which is honestly rarely true except in drizzle or snow
I don’t like to traipse thru the woods in pitch black in 20 degrees either when I can wait till the crack of 7..lol.....and in a shoot house...another old person invention....I can be more comfortable and sit all day with lunch if I want
I do most of my hunting ..from 2- 30 minutes past official sunset
Biggest issue with shoot houses is not deer scared of them....it’s if your cell phone has coverage ..lol....distracted
If I’m on the ground or A ladder stand ....you have to be more disciplined
$47.70 to $160 == 335% increase........
My LAST hunt. Was a goose hunt. Cold, Cold, Cold, Cold... The dogs wouldn’t go. Me and another guy are standing there in a pit of water and having to move around to keep it from freezing around us. THAT was my last hunt! I’ve never hunted again. But for an entirely different reason. Physically I could... But... I just no longer could.
Were birds moving?
Northern Vermont is not like the rest of the State. There were 3 healthy bucks and 5 doe taken during all seasons (bow, rifle & muzzleloader) within 500 yds of my property. Can’t compare a 110 lb CT buck with a 180 lb VT buck. Numbers don’t tell the whole story.
Not much THAT day!
