Column: ‘It feels like a second-class shot.’ Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine equity problem
LA Times Newspaper ^ | 3-10-2021 | Erika D. Smith

After weeks of being talked up and fawned over by public health officials, the new COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is finally starting to make an appearance in California.

In most quarters, this has been a cause for celebration. Hundreds of thousands of doses that don’t have to be stored in freezers and can be administered in one shot instead of the two required for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines? No wonder I’ve heard several politicians call it a “game changer,” especially after so many months of supply shortages.

The J&J vaccine only works on 5 out of 10 people that receive it.

I’m laid up in bed now after receiving it yesterday. Guess that’s a sign that it’s working.

Use it on those under 50 who are already 99.9% protected.

They (media) always have to put a racial spin on everything.
Take your immune support supplements. Take or don’t take the shot.
Tired of the drama of covid....

"The J&J vaccine only works on 5 out of 10 people that receive it."

That simply is not true. Get the facts here: https://www.fda.gov/media/146219/download#page=96

Screw this stupid bug and the stupid vaccine for it

I am so freaking sick of this garbage that anytime I hear any vaccine talk I just turn it off

And believe you me there’s a lot of stuff I have to turn off these commercials for the vaccine radio talk show host talking about the vaccine all this crap is just endless right now

The big picture is this bug was never really a threat at all and their giant for sod and control scheme is falling apart and they’re just trying to push as much propaganda and get as much compliance with getting the vaccine as they can and he’s waiting moments before everything gets back to normal and there never ever ever able to do this crap again

Hope you're feeling better quickly. J&J is the only shot I'll get, but I'm not eligible yet.

OTOH I got my second shingles shot last Thursday and Friday I felt like I got hit by a truck.

Much better now, though.

Yea, they probably doubled the dose to get it to one shot.

That they are going to put Johnson & Johnson in our communities really feels like a slap in the face,” said Corey Matthews, chief operating officer of Community Coalition. “It just doesn’t feel like it is the best shot. It feels like a second-class shot.”

Maybe if he did more thinking and less feeling, his “communities” wouldn’t be so poor.

That is government propaganda. When they had the trials it only worked on 57% of the people that received it. It is in the J&J published trial data. It’s a second class vaccine that is barely effective.

“It feels like a second-class shot.”

So you want a first class “shot”?

Sure. It sorta just feels line a middle of road hangover. Sucks is that you’re not supposed to use ibuprofen as I think that reduces its effectiveness which is always my go-to. I got my shot yesterday late afternoon. Started feeling lousy around 8-9 this morning.

US News: "J&J's vaccine was found to be 66% effective at preventing moderate to severe disease; in the U.S. alone, it was found to be 72% effective. The vaccine also was 85% effective overall against severe disease, preventing deaths completely and hospitalizations after a period of at least 28 days."

"Importantly, the Janssen vaccine was 85% effective in preventing severe disease after 28 days across all geographical regions, and efficacy increased over time, with zero cases reported in vaccinated participants after the 49th day. It also demonstrated complete protection against COVID-19 related hospitalization and death. There were no reported cases requiring hospitalization, ICU admission, mechanical ventilation, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) 28 days post-vaccination."

That's from the actual study data. Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine's 66% Efficacy Rate Not the Entire Story

If that’s what they did, I’ll take it. It was an hour and a half drive to get it.

NOT EVERYWHERE!

Here in Ithaca, Tompkins County actually, the largest number of cases is in the 20-29 age group. NOT the elderly! In fact, the elderly 70 and up, are lower than 10-69! and just a tad over 0-9.

So, here in Ithaca the safest group to be in is 70 and up. (based on testing positive that is) More testing, more positives.

I was quarantined for 14 days because of contact with someone who tested positive. (I had close personal contact with them) I didn’t even bother to get tested.

Yes we do have major universities here.

See the data for yourself:
