I put my cell phone next to my computer as I listen to radio stations so it will gather audio data that is not me. I use browsers that don’t track me. Looking for other ways people are using to either avoid the trackers or to flood the trackers with useless data.

I shop online for tampons. Throws their whole algorithm off.

Start by getting a REAL firewall instead of a router from Best Buy.

I do crossword puzzles. My searches tend to be for obscure and pop-culture things.

Poisoning is the right way. I’ve already got YouTube convinced I am a Korean-speaking female. They are wasting a lot of their advertisers’ money on me. :)

I wish some of those machine learning algorithms worked better. I have been trying to train Amazon’s book recommendations for years...

One example of this happening is Apple’s latest versions of its Safari browser. By default more trackers are being blocked, so Facebook - whose lifeblood is user data - is declaring war on Apple.

I’ve been doing this for years. A few times a week I search some random illness or condition. I click on ads I have NO interest in. “Search” for things from a wide variety of cultures and lifestyles.

I have no idea how this has affected my online algorithm but I get very few ads for anything I might really be interested in. Probably because my real interests would bore a gnat and are not profitable.

Researchers at the Computer Assn for Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency show how you can exploit Big Tech:
<><> do "data strikes"---withhold or delete your data so a tech firm cannot use it or sell it;
<><> install privacy tools,
<><> do fun stuff like "data poisoning," contributing meaningless and/or harmful data;
<><> use AdNauseam, a browser extension that clicks on ads Big Tech sends you, thus confusing Google’s ad-targeting algorithms.

Seems like a lot of work for no actual gain. Oh great so now the ads aren’t something that you would be interested in, so what. Google probably thinks AdNaseum is great, since they get paid on click-throughs, please click everything.

I’m amused to get ads that try to sell me what I’ve already bought.

We refinanced a couple of years ago and afterwards was inundated for months with ads for refinancing. Lol.

I go to some of the sickest porn on the web. It tickles me to think of Serge, Tim Cook, Bill Gates and John Brennon all peering over my shoulder checking it out. Sick bastids.

Judging by the ads I get, Big Data thinks I’m an elderly male young mother of two, who suffers from ED and teenage acne.

Pretty sure the metadata is already poisoned.
