Grand Lake Theatre, Oakland Known for the opinionated messages that regularly grace its marquee (owner Allen Michaan is very vocal about politics), the Grand Lake Theatre is a remnant of a more luxurious age of moviegoing that’s been remarkably preserved. Depending on what movie you’re seeing, you’ll be seated in the expansive main auditorium (home of the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ, played before select screenings), a desert-themed Egyptian auditorium or the tiled Moorish-style theater. The last time I was in a theater I noticed they had the same speakers I had in my house!
They had more of them, but the same Cerwin Vegas never the less.

I’ve only been to one of these theaters although another one listed is a relocated theater I did visit.
I still think that they missed some other still operating theaters and the takeaway is that all around the world the good revival/specialty houses are a rare breed in today’s economy and either needing to go to GoFundMe, merchandising (distribution or collectible prints and other merch), or turn non-profit to stay alive.
In a movie PALACE a steward or stewardess should be there to hold your beverage.
I read the other day that Alamo Draft House is in serious trouble due to Covid lock downs.
