RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The past two weeks have been restless for Raleigh resident Sandra Taylor, she says construction has been keeping both her and her husband up during the night.
"For the past two weeks it's like a large jackhammer, like a massive jackhammer, sort of like blasting, in a way, but it's so extremely loud and it also kind of rattles the house a little bit as well, because it's so loud," Taylor said.
She said it usually starts around midnight and can go until 4 am.
"We work so to have to go to work the next day, it's irritating and it's just not fair," Taylor said.
The noise is coming from NCDOT's I-40 widening project from southeast Raleigh to Clayton.
A project that is said to lessen the impact on traffic. The construction causes some overnight closures on Interstate 40 East and I-440 East between Poole Road and Rock Quarry Road.

PING!
1st world problems alert!
Raleigh has turned into such a liberal crap hole since I first arrived in the late 70s, I have no sympathy.
Glad I left.
Just wait until they hear the traffic noise!
Amen, I am so tired of all the Beltwhiners!
Karen should have avoided purchasing a home near the interstate. Crazy.
Sometimes noise finds you...
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
UuuWaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Poor, poor Karen....
“it’s just not fair.” Eeesh.
“Where is my multi-million $$$ sound barrier wall?”
“Now, don’t you worry your sweet little heart there pumpkin. Your friends in the rural part of the county will take care of that just for you. Now, you just run along....”
When the 1994 earthquake severely damaged the Santa Monica Freeway, C C Myers, the contractor, went on TV & told residents that they would be working 24/7 to get the road back open. There would be noise, and giant Kleig lights for night time work. There would be interference with electronic equipment sometimes.
He finished 63 days AHEAD of his contract deadline.
If they paved Raleigh over completely it would solve a lot of problems.
Raleigh? I used to visit my grandmother there.
