"Hanging on the Telephone" is a song written by Jack Lee. The song was first performed by his short-lived US West Coast power pop band The Nerves; later in 1978, it was recorded and released as a single by the American rock band Blondie.
Beginning with a phone sound-effect courtesy of producer Mike Chapman, Blondie's version of the song was released on the band's breakthrough third album, Parallel Lines.
Like one of Blondie's subsequent singles, "Sunday Girl", "Hanging on the Telephone" employs a double backbeat rhythm in its drumming pattern, meaning the "off" beats alternate between a quarter note and two eighth notes.

I remember that song - “I’m in the phone booth it’s the one across the hall, if you don’t answer I’ll just ring it off the wall”. Debbie Harry was gorgeous when Parallel Lines came out.
Can’t understand why anyone would bother producing a 2-minute song like that.
Blondie was a good band
not one of the biggest/best
but a good band
they started improving a lot after debbie harry started to take singing seriously and work on her voice and projection
Blondie (Debbie Harry) circa 1978 was screamingly insanely hot. I am showing my age by referring to 1978.
I was nine years old in 1978 and thought Debbie Harris was smoking hot.
One of my favorite songs and bands. I saw them in Central Park in ‘78 or ‘79, then again in Tunica 10-15 years ago.
I was nine in 1978 and thought Christi Brinkley was hot as smoke.
Blondie may be the most underrated band of the 20th century.
Folks equate them with disco. They did like two disco songs.
Indisputably Clem Burke is the most underrated drummer of the era.

Whenever I hear that Blondie song Heart of Glass
you’ll never guess what I also think about;
The Three Mile Island Incident in Pennslyvannia.
Both happened near the same time in 1979.
Three Mile Island was a partial meltdown of reactor number 2 of the 3 Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in Dauphin County, Penn. For many days, no one in the country knew quite what to expect from this ‘disruption’.
It was truly a big deal, featured on frequent News Alerts.
Ultimately, not much really happened that can be seen by the eyes or our other basic senses.
Clem Burke was a really good drummer. Probably still is.

INDISPUTABLY
My sister looked a lot like her. At the same time. She was a disco queen.
Blonde was flexible. Various genres covered. Called New Wave but more than that.
