I hate to see that.
Gosh, I haven’t been to a theater movie in 50+ years. Somehow, they should be preserved.
It matters where one lives.
I have diversity near me, with access to free bus passes, so movies are done forever if I live here.
Toooo bad. But I never went to movies anyway, just two the year before the shutdown-—movies are such junk now. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a hoot, and JoJo Rabbit was funny and touching. Both got Oscars for something. But even Oscars are idiotic...some Korean “comedy” beat out the two I mentioned that year.
Jojo Rabbit was interesting. It had some great filmmaking, but I may disagree with most people about the film. I thought the relationship between the boy and the young lady was amazing. Most of the last 30 to 40 minutes were great. The fall of Berlin.
I did not think the gimmick of the boy's imaginary friend worked all so well. If I was talking to the director, I would have taken all that out and focused on what I thought was the heart of the movie.
A real shame. A good place to watch a film

😂”
Until the kids figure out you can sneak inside the trunk without paying...
Designated iconic and it was built in 1995? An Iconic movie theater in my mind goes back to the Hollywood golden era and some great movie like Casablanca, Ben-Hur, Rebel Without A Cause, etc., premiered there …
Once that judge let the Homeless camp in the theater, what the heck did people expect?
The article has a picture of it. It looks like a modern big box multiplex with a “vintage” looking sign and box office slapped on the front. Noting special.
The Rio Theatre on Soquel Ave. is also kind of like that, but not super impressive. I don't think the Rio is used for movies anymore, just for concerts and maybe spoke word?
In my state, while permitted to open, most if not all theaters are closed. Originally they said they planned to re-open in spring but most have quietly changed to “later this year.”
The lack of films AND restrictions like 50% OR 25 people which ever is greater per theater AND no concessions forced their hands. The left (useful idiots all the way up to Gov) were shocked that when they limited, say a 12 screen multiplex to just 100 people in the building, staff included they would loose more money with utilities, payroll, supplies, etc. trying to open vs. lay off all but the manager and “winterize” the building.
The writer/director, Taika Waititi, played Hitler. I loved his depiction of that idiot.
Taika is so clever, and does such amazing interviews, I told my friends that if I win a big lottery jackpot, I’ll hire him to sit on my couch 3 hours a day and talk about anything.
The into, were he spliced together Beatlemania with Hitler mania was interesting.

I never did that 😉
You have to fill up the theater regularly or you can’t afford to stay open. I don’t believe theaters will ever be able to regain their former popularity. To many viable options available. They’re history sooner or later.
“former popularity”
agree 100%
Since I returned to civilian life in 1957, I’ve been in a movie theater three times only, to see Godfather 1 & 2 and Deep Throat...
After marriage (1960), my wife or my Dad took the kids to movies...
