'Slavery ended over 130 years ago:' NFL legend Herschel Walker says black Americans should not be paid reparations and calls for 'forgiveness' at congressional hearing

NFL legend Herschel Walker argued against reparations for black Americans at a congressional hearing, saying: 'Slavery ended over 130 years ago.'

Walker made his case to members of the Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties who met via Zoom on Wednesday to discuss House Resolution 40, which aims to 'establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery'.

The athlete, who played for the University of Georgia and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982 before going pro, asserted that compensating black Americans for the lasting impacts of slavery would cause more harm than good.

What memories from my youth. A very admirable man. He gave a speech at a recent Heisman award ceremony for an award and he gave a very moving speech.

Over 150 years. I tend to do that too. Underestimate time passage.

” to discuss House Resolution 40, which aims to ‘establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery”

People thought I was crazy when I said the Biden occupation was considering a “privilege tax” on white people to pay for reparations. My good friend Dan in DC was telling me this and he’s proven right 99% of the time WELL, step right up! Here they are and what are they talking about? Reparations!! And just watch: they are going to introduce the privilege tax under the table, possibly even calling it a different name to stop people from freakin out as much as possible. Welcome to the utopia of Biden ville

Only a small number of Americans had ancestors who owned slaves. Why should the rest have the need to forgive anything?
Those who had ancestors who died on the Union side have already paid “in full measure”. What about the African American’s who had ancestors that sold slaves to the slave traders in Africa. Seems like they should ask for forgiveness and pay reparations.

But the Left’s relentless, evil thirst for power still exists.

Mr Walker is one of a select few admirable athletes who refuse to cave to the mob. He is a true Patriot, and thankfully his son is following in his Dad’s footsteps. Loved him in his playing days, and still do.

There's not one person in these United States who endures the effects of their ancestors being slaves.

Poor is another case....but that applies equally to black and white.

And immigrants?? You can't expect to come here and have what people worked for all their lives.

My grandparents came here about 1900. Their babies (incl my dad) were born about 1915-1925. They all worked on the farm, went to school and two generations later, their grandchildren were getting college degrees.

We need a good work ethic to survive.

Trump got a record number of black votes. Got to get those votes back somehow.

I noticed that too. I have done nothing for which I need forgiveness. In fact, all the blacks who have participated in the knockout “game” , or looted and vandalized, should ask for forgiveness. But we know that won’t happen.

Another divisive vote buying tool that the left will employ if allowed.
For every vote gained you would think that there’d be more than one lost.
That’s where all this white shaming comes in. So transparent so transparent.

You are making the logical arguments as to why reparations cannot work. And there are a lot more of them. My only problem with logical arguments in this issue is that they don’t address the moral and legal underpinnings upon which the US is based. Some could even claim that those making the logical arguments are supporting the idea of reparations - we just haven’t found the right way (yet) to pay them.

It seems the better argument is that in America, it is un-Constitutional to punish people for the crimes committed by others. There is no way around it - any form of reparations today will be un-Constitutional because innocent people cannot be protected from being imposed a burden for which they are not responsible. The federal givernment has no right to do this, else we are Amerika.

What about the trillions I paid in welfare for them over the past 50 years? Do I get a credit for that on my reparations bill?

First we gave 40 acres and a mule, and then we gave trillions in great society welfare programs.

I think it is all about further dividing us. And once again, anyone talking common sense about this issue will be labelled racist. They are so predictable.

That is exactly correct. No one in this nation owes anything to anybody for black slavery.

If reparations are paid, the countries that were involved in bringing slaves to America should kick in, as well as the Dahomey tribes that sold their excess population for colored beads and other assorted trinkets.
