Boomer Supermarket (1962)
Out On The YouTube ^

Posted on 02/21/2021 5:18:01 PM PST by SamAdams76

Exciting day at the supermarket circa 1962as the Nelson's go grocery shopping.

In which little Betty Nelson snags her own little cart and does her own shopping.

In which little Jack Nelson gets put in charge of the grocery list.

In which the friendly butcher hacks off an extra large veal roast for Mrs. Nelson.

Squealing pet dog "Chipper" gets left in hot car with the window cracked open!

Look at all the cans...

No doubt Dad is hard at work, perhaps in the city at Sterling Cooper.

These were halycon days for supermarket checkers like Helen (pictured below). I don't think the Nelson family drew her in the film however. They must have checked out through a different aisle.

Wonder if they had, I think it was called old fashioned loaf lunch meat? It was the 9ne with coarse pepper on top. I used to love that. Can’t find it anymore.

The copyright at the beginning clearly shows 1957.

It's amazing how many things have NOT changed - the shopping carts, conveyors at checkout, the aisles, many food packages, the meat counter.

But one big recent change does jump out at you...

Ha. Mom had my sister in the basket and a harness on me so I wouldn’t wreak havoc in the cereal aisle

Is this the video where she gets a lot of groceries including meat from the butcher and the bill is around $9?

I worked at a superstore in Greensburg, Pa circa 1974. Full grocery and full general merchandise. It was called GeeBee and owned by Glosser Brothers. I made 1.25 an hour.

I quit watching once I realized the narrative did not state “Chipper was in a hot car”, it’s lefty PC turn off talk with no basis in fact, which PO’d me. Sorry.

But, now that I’ve cooled off, Chipper was in a 55 or 56 Chevy, the newest car was a 57 Chevy.

The lead in narrative before clicking on you tube is as bad as the video quality.
