LOL! I think it got to 67 today - got my sunflower raised bed weeded - should have done it last fall, but never quite got to it. Tomorrow will be cooler - high around 57; however, the ground has firmed up a bit so I’m hauling tree ice storm debris (4 huge piles I cut up yesterday). Friday will be down to 49. then 4 days of rain ... sigh.

A Disney Cruise Line recipe------nice made w/ garden potatoes.
Serve w/ luscious Maple-Glazed Salmon as they do aboard ship.

Baked Onion-Mashed Potatoes
Mash 2 lb drained, warm red potatoes w/ milk/butter; add pureed Baked Onions; s/p.
BAKED ONIONS Bake soft 2 med chp onions/2 tbl ol/oil 375 deg 15 min. Blender/purée.

MAPLE-GLAZED SALMON
Sear both sides in heated pan 4 filets coated w/ olive oil/coarse salt/wh/pepper.
Drizzle w/ Maple Glaze. Finish 350 deg 12-15 min to fave doneness.

GLAZE Flambe 1/4 c brandy 5 sec. Add 1 1/4 c maple syrup; heat.
Whisk in cornstarch/slurry; simmer/stir 5 min. Cool to room temp.

ASSEMBLY Arrange on plate potatoes, salmon, Glaze drizzle.
SERVE garnished w/ a shower of diced red peppers, minced scallion.

That sounds good! I have some Salmon in the freezer. Supper one night this week - probably without the flaming, though, LOL!

I sometimes forget to turn off a burner - that could be a disaster in the making. ;)

Wife gave me an updated photo of the greenhouse seed starts.

Flaming gives the salmon the flavor profile the chef desired.....it also burns off the alcohol content.

You could just cook down the maple syrup and the brandy.....which also reduces the alcohol.....and then add the thickener.

Salmon is thawing - I am going to make a Maple Glaze for it. :)

Dinner is served! Shrimp Cocktail, Salmon, Cole Slaw (home made) and Baked Potato Fries* from this past seasons garden. They’re keeping really well in cardboard boxes down in the 55-degree basement.

*Cut potatoes into 8 ‘wedges’(scrubbed, skins on, any kind) toss with EVOO, Garlic Salt, Pepper and Smoked Paprika. Bake on a cookie sheet, 425 degrees for 30 minutes or so.

When to See the Full Moon in February 2021

February’s full Snow Moon reaches peak illumination at 3:19 A.M. EST on Saturday, February 27. For the best view of this Moon, look for it on the night of Friday, February 26; it will drift above the horizon in the east around sunset and reach its highest point in the sky around midnight.

Why Is It Called the Snow Moon?

The full Moon names used by The Old Farmer’s Almanac come from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, not just to the full Moon itself.

The explanation behind February’s full Moon name is a fairly straightforward one: it’s known as the Snow Moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February. On average, February is the United States’ snowiest month, according to data from the National Weather Service. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver, who had visited with the Naudowessie (Dakota), wrote that the name used for this period was the Snow Moon, “because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter.”

Alternative February Moon Names

Names for this month’s Moon have historically had a connection to animals. The Cree traditionally called this the Bald Eagle Moon or Eagle Moon. The Ojibwe Bear Moon and Tlingit Black Bear Moon refer to the time when bear cubs are born. The Dakota also call this the Raccoon Moon, certain Algonquin peoples named it the Groundhog Moon, and the Haida named it Goose Moon.

Another theme of this month’s Moon names is Scarcity. The Cherokee names of Month of the Bony Moon and Hungry Moon give evidence to the fact that food was hard to come by at this time.

LOL! How’s Texas?

I just got here today. Threw my bag in the Air BnB, drove next door ajd got 2 beers and a pint of whiskey, then drove to my property.

Every oak tree has damage from the ice storm but no dead trees.

I met one of my old timer neighbors who was out driving around on his 4x4.

I called him “Mr. Beaumont” until he got tired of it and made me call him Sam.

I had been walking my property trying to pace out the revised survey so I would know where one particular line was located.

A neighboring property owner had their well dug and power brought to the corner of their lot. The electric company will throw up poles and wore for 600 feet no charge and lo and behold they brought it across property!

So I have power on to my property right where I intended to put my home.....PERFECTO!!!

Seeing the adjacent lot with a new capped well is a good sign too. I have to find out who they are and how deep they had to go for water.

My feet are dead dog tired from walking over the uneven rocky ground.....may have a blister or too.

The soul looks good... .something about cattle grazing and pooping everywhere makes for good soil!

Going to catch some live music tonite.

Meeting 2 homebuilders tomorrow.

Sunday I am doing a photo shoot with a young lady who moved here from Seattle and whom I have photographed a few other times. We were going to shoot out on my property but this Air BnB is very cute so probably shooting indoors mostly.

Monday I am filing some agricultural paperwork with the county that will keep property taxes very low.

Then fly home Tuesday....back to the grind.

Oh....and I have rapidly moved up the promotional list due to all the supervisors retiring and getting replaced.

I am now 13th on the Sgt list......should get promoted sometime this year, probably around Xmas.

Did I mention I found some ancient seeds iny dad’s garage???

I am going to pile a bunch of cow pies up and throw down a couple of bags of potting soil on top of them...and just throw the seeds in the dirt and see what is there when I come back in May....a little science experiment if you will.
