My ancestors farmed their way from Plymouth Rock to Georgia, traveling where ever the soil was fertile. They ended in Georgia, one great uncle to become a Signer of the Constitution for the State of Georgia, a senator, a founding member of UGA, before moving back to New York because of slavery.

.....for the garden enthusiast, the book reminds us that a garden has a purpose, a character,
a soul -- it's an expression of our relationship not just to soil, but to a vision of the world"......

IOW, qardeners got all the right stuff.

And don't forget all of those hard working Lady Farmers in WWII that helped keep everyone fed on the home fronts!

'Land Girls' is a pretty good series to watch, too.

Great story! The first time I ever heard the expression “gigg a frog” was just several years ago. A friend who has grown up in NE Texas and was living here mentioned it.

We hit 43 right now and the birdbaths melted. Had 6 bluebirds sitting on our rain gutters over the garage door drinking. It’s sunny too! Still have 10+ inches of snow on the ground but who cares.

Thanks for the ping. I have 2 birthday gifts that I needed to buy for March birthdays. This book is perfect for my daughters and I’m getting one for me too. 😎

Sun is out, greenhouse got too hot, so had to open the door. Passive Solar has my computer room toasty. Almost 60 degrees out doors at the peak-starting to cool off now.

Spring cleaning continues. Getting ready to try out Emeril’s Pressure Air Fryer—a gift from oldest daughter. Going to try the canning first.

My garden looks perfect for about 15 minutes mid-July.

Then, I take a lot of pictures, LOL!

Jealous of your ‘passive solar.’ We hit 45 degrees, today; my greenhouse was in the 80’s!

I just stood in there for a while today and smelled the DIRT! :)

I’m going to check the library for the book. A person with one of my ancestors surname sold seed and plants to George Washington/Thomas Jefferson. Maybe details about his business will be in the book. Really don’t know if he is related...but, does have the same last name.

I love early American history!

I had a doctors appointment this morning and afterwards went to the local botanic garden and spent an hour in the tropical greenhouse, enjoyed looking at many nice orchids and the butterflies are out already. And I just smelled the green! So I know what you mean.

We hit upper 90s before I opened the door. I planted a pot of beets today- it’s not many, but I wanted to try them out to see if I could use a pot.

Carrots and beets don’t do well in our soil, so we’ll see if they do better in potting mix.

Our yard has similar problem. Ground is frozen, Sun melted the snow-but it’s not seeping into the frozen ground.

It was a "GLORIOUS" 63 degrees yesterday & SUNSHINE (what is that bright, big ball of light in the sky?). Outside all afternoon, working in a T-shirt (woo hoo - Vit D upload!!!) cutting up ice storm damage. All the limbs that came down were huge - got everything cut off the fence, cut up what was in the yard, & took the smaller limbs off a huge pine limb that will need a chain saw to chunk up. Took 3 hours & I'm sore, but it's that good kind of 'satisfying' sore you get after a productive day of work. It's supposed to be upper 60's today & tomorrow - didn't haul anything away because the ground is so sloppy, but will do it tomorrow - hopefully, the ground will have dried out a bit.

My niece posted this & it definitely applies to our weather with 2 ice storms in a week & now balmy, sunshine weather for a couple of days. Everyone wants to PLANT something LOL!:
