Not long after I posted a reply to another post, that in considering what The Republic of Texas is looking to in reference to Governor Abbott and the winter storms disaster declarations, power grid woes and plans to repair / restructure, the word "nuclear" fairly popped into my mind. I wasn't thinking about it.
I was musing as to why my stomach was growling after such a bodacious and filling breakfast. And whether I should take a nap before that. How to build a sleet/snowman with a plastic coffee container and whether if it formerly contained a "robust, bold roast", would the iceguy launch into orbit (just kidding). Sushi bars and saxaphones. What a hoot it would've been to have acquired a doctorate in flatulencology...pardon the pun.
God's blessed me with a sense of humor, Praise His Holy Name. But this is indeed, again, and could have been another extreme in sheer danger and magnitude in addition to all other aspects of the historic winter weather impacts in Texas. That is, a loss of power at one nuclear power plant, cascading instrumentation malfunction or inability to detect. But, by the Grace of God, stopped in time by His own hand.
This, in reference to what my sweet mom was telling me about what was a narrowly-averted "disaster".

I was born in the summer of 1979 about 100 miles from 3 mile island, and I turned out ok.

It is fun to drink heavily while posting. It is even more fun to smoke an absolutely epic joint, then bang down a dozen or more shots of Jack and then post!

The way I understood it, Demand spiked as a couple plants went off line. So they immediately started shutting down parts of the grid to lessen demand.
I am guessing that means the operation of the grid has to be watched and manually operated. If demand is too high and nothing is done, the power plants will go into “overdrive” trying to meet the demand and can fail.
It was said if the blackout of parts of the grid was not done, it would have taken months to recover. So I am thinking there would have been some damage to any power plant online at the time to repair.
That is mostly guessing though, there hasn’t been a clear explanation, so that is my best guess.
