I read about a man up near Abilene, TX who froze to death in his recliner. His wife who was found by his side is barely alive. What happened? Were they living far away from neighbors? Did no one care to check on them? No neighbors, family, church members, pastor, priest, friends? I'd like to think we can learn something from such tragedies. When God called out Cain about his brother Abel, what did insolent Cain say to the Lord? "Am I my brother's keeper?" What is the answer to that question? Some of us live right next store to neighbors we don't even know, myself included. Here I say to myself, have a care.
I live on a cul-de-sac.
We all know each other, except for one new family, that’s stand-offish ever since they moved in, about 5 years ago.
Their immediate next-door neighbor was trying to meet them when they first moved in by going over and sayin Hi, welcome to the neighborhood.
Their reply was, “I just want to be your neighbor, not your friend.”

I am guilty also. I mean my parents line on my right side but all other people that live around me I have no clue anything about them. I keep to myself and have lives there since 1995 and couldn’t tell you any of there names. Never really talked to them. If I see them outside I always wave. But I guess I could make a effort. Guess I do it out of fear they will want to be all talky talk and borrow things and be up in my business.
Would be the last words I would ever say to them. Used to have a guy that lived across the street for a few years. He was a legit nut case. Would be friendly with people next to them and then call the cops on them the next day for no reason. He was baker acted one day and they family moved. That’s been years ago. I never even waved at him.
How do you freeze to death in a house? There are people camping in tents.
A small tent will retain body heat. A house is too large for that.
A special kind of person......definitely has something to hide..... Do you see him digging in his backyard late at night?🧛♂️
The rest of us don’t speak to them. What gets me is they are retired Air Force, both husband and wife. Not typical behavior for ex military...................
I hope I go in a recliner with a Bible in one hand and a beer in the other.
Now that you mention it, one of the FIRST things they did was put up a privacy fence in the back yard, and a large concrete patio.
This is a new house. Theo old one was torn down. The people who lived there before were very friendly.........................

Your right. They are usually at least semi friendly. O well it there loss. I just choose to keep to myself but will wave or say hi. My wife is much more friendly than myself and has talked to our neighbors next to us. They have a dog and he got in our yard and they came to the fence and asked for permission to come get the dog. The father don’t speak English but seemed nice. That’s about the only interaction I have had with them in 8 years they have been there.

It is also the case that in hypothermia one becomes disoriented or unable to concentrate, as well as becomes sleepy. They may have thought they had things under control and not aware as the night progressed that they actually were in great danger. The elderly also have less rigorous circulatory systems which may have contributed to the problem.
Unfortunately those times are gone. My neighborhood only had a few homes on my street. Now it’s... well a large and mixed community. Some areas I don’t feel liked. Lol. But my wife tells me all the time I look like a leader of the Arian brotherhood. It used to be a bad area you would see the cops in all the time. Had a guy living in a house behind me run when they served a warrant on him. He hid under my house, heard a noise and saw him come out. Grabbed my gun and ran outside but he had jumped the fence before I got out there. Had about 10 cops and dogs and helicopter over my house. It’s since cleaned up and a lot of older people. We are fenced in with privacy fence across the front of 2 acres.
