Things are really real down in Texas rn.
Here's just a sample. Too many to post see link for many more:

It’s not a light, just a ceiling fan, and all ceiling fans I’ve ever seen have built-in pull chains to turn them off.
Up north we call that camping weather.
But seriously..I hope they will okay.
A sleeping bag, even a 50 degree bag..with one of those hand warmers that hunters and outside workers use.. put in at the foot of the bag..will get you through the night.
It’s not an ice storm. Totally different.
Texas must have bought some surplus wind turbines rated for south Florida temperatures.
BTW, I've seen the huge blades being hauled on Texas railroads, each the length of multiple flatbed rail cars. I don't know what happens if there are any significant turns in the track.
I’d like to see Gang Green dangling from lamp posts nationwide.
You are not alone.
L
I am guessing that in warmer climates they are not use to thinking about those kind of things.
Just like up north the first snow of the year we use to drive around in empty parking lots ..to practice how to slide and slow brake.
I’d like to strangle that damn groundhog.
It’s called busted water pipes. Many of the homes have the pipes in the attic. Cheaper for the builder. Twenty years later when the big chill happens, he is long gone.
Must have been a porknado.
It depends on where you are. We still have eight inches of snow with two inches of sleet on top. The roads are passable but very slick. Hills are impossible even for four wheel drive.
Texas guy: "deep too"😎
We don’t have snow plows for cold snaps that come around every 30 years. We have salt and sand trucks only.

THE only solution!...............
Fire up that grill for warmth and BBQ!!!
Yeah, life's a real nightmare there and you yankee democrats surely don't want to subject yourselves and loved ones to those rigors! Stay put y'all.😎

You mentioned why the light was on with water pouring down and I answered you.
One thing you need to do is use a roof rake to clear snow at least two feet from the edge of your roof. As the damage is done when melting snow re-freezes where the gutters are and the melting snow has no place to go but under the shingles and into your home.
We bought a new house some years ago and the first winter, we had ice dams and water leaked into the home. We had to tear out a lot of sheetrock and redo. It was very disheartening.
The Dallas Stars finally play in a home environment conducive to hockey!
And some folks are allowing the Chinese to control our utilities.
And meanwhile we are shipping grain and meat to them.
