In reality, failures in natural gas, coal and nuclear energy systems were responsible for nearly twice as many outages as frozen wind turbines and solar panels, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the state’s power grid, said in a press conference Tuesday.

It gets cold in Denver. Where does their electricity come from? Seems like if wind and solar were that effective, Ali and Arjeta would’ve pointed out how great that works in Denver.

45,000 total megawatts of power that were offline statewide, about 30,000 consisted of thermal sources — gas, coal and nuclear plants — and 16,000 came from renewable sources.

where renewable makes up 10% of energy, over 50% of failed systems were renewable?

where is the investigative reporting?

This is an editorial. Not an article presented with facts from differing experts. We are being told what to think/believe, not given facts for us to make up our own minds.

Puzzingly.

Gotta love how the mediots are incapable of refraining from editorializing in a "news" story.

If you are going to depend on renewable sources for such a large percentage of your electricity then wouldn’t it have made sense to use wind generators that work in winter? Same for your gas, coal, and nuclear plants?

She’s great at PR, like a reality star.
Time will prove me correct or incorrect.
I’ll post what I think regardless of your opinion.

The “Green New Deal” was not actually in progress in Texas, but one of its important elements, reliance on wind and solar “renewable energy”, had drained away the resources that the ERCOT should have been applying to RELIABLE backup power, for when the windmills and solar panels froze over with a coating of ice. Further, there was no onsite storage for compressed natural gas, as the natural gas-fired generation stations were relying on the direct piping of natural gas to the turbines driving the dynamos delivering the primary power to the grid. The water vapor in the gas pipelines was freezing up and constricting or stopping the flow of the fuel in transit.

Heard her hubby agrees. LOL! Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Scientists juan williams and jen (raggedy jen) sackee have already stated that the renewables were NOT the problem in Texas so we should shut up about it. Or something.

The propaganda is strong with this article. Wind provides only 25%, only?? And they like to talk about what was offline, which is interesting and important. But, the bottom line is wind was only producing between 3-17% of its capacity during this event (based on my watching ERCOT real time data).

Wind is expensive, intermittent, and did not produce when needed. During the summer, winds in Texas are light, and electrical load is highest in the summer.

Therefore, in winter and summer when you need power, wind is missing in action. It is a boondoggle and waste of resources and money.

where renewable makes up 10% of energy, over 50% of failed systems were renewable?

One of the facts that has fallen out of this is the pattern of the Green Lucy Van Pelt:

Nuclear power - BAD!
OK, we'll get rid of nukes.

Coal - BAD!
OK, we'll get rid of dirty coal and move to clean natural gas.

We're halfway down the Green clown funnel where natural gas [fracking] is declared to be BAD!, in order to move on to unicorn farts.

Very similar to where the banking industry was forced to give out house loans to inner city deadbeats because "redlining".

The Texas power people were just being forced to use technology where this could happen - just another bad choice in an array of bad choices forced on them by the Green Lucy Van Pelts.

I agree with you, teeman8r - it doesn't let the unreliability of unicorn farts off the hook.
