Nobody listens especially politicians until the lights (and heat!) go out. Texas voters will remember how our state officials 'managed' this energy crisis and set us up for failure with a foolish reliance on wind and solar that is not advanced enough to keep us warm. For some rolling blackouts are a big misnomer that have people freezing for many hours if not days. Pray and be good neighbors, especially to the elderly and those with little children.
You are aware that an even larger percentage of power was lost when gas and coal fired plants were forced to close down because of the weather, aren't you?

I have never heard of gas or coal power plant having to shut down because of cold weather (not that it could not happen but it is funny since the first time I have heard of it is when the green energy power sources failed because of cold.
That’s baloney. We traded baseload for green, and this is the result. I’ve spent 41 years in the baseload coal industry and what happened was not a surprise to any of us, it was predictable. It happened during a polar vortex in 2019. You can’t shut down baseload coal plants for 20 years and expect no consequences.
No doubt, built according to federal requirements
Of course the were.
Seems like a case where Texas had zero electricity or gas storage. The number of people who heat with electric seems extream. Powerplants have plenty of extra thermal heat to keep natural gas storage tanks warm and flowing, but Texas skips buffering tanks on power plants. It is not unreasonable to make power plants store 5-15 days of natural gas for such emergencies. Powergrids should be building 1 - 3 days of electrical storage buffer just for needs of electric cars. This is not the first time it has been in the twenties in Texas.
Tell that to your governor and your energy companies. They're the one saying that half the generating capacity is offline and much of that is coal and gas plants.
We aren’t burning fossil fuels.
It’s the green new way.
Texas has a lot of our Southern border.
“Seems like a case where Texas had zero electricity or gas storage..”
How do you propose to store several hundred megawatts of electricity?
L
25% is wind and isn’t wind #2 source in thr state?
Texas GREEN energy nightmare
Although some people have seemed excited to see so many businesses from California and New York (and other places) moving to Texas, to me that has always seemed like a deliberate effort to flood the state with Liberals. I think the Left finds ways to shift population around so that they can seize control of strategic areas.
We were blinking a bit Sunday overnight, then completely out from pre-dawn Monday till ~3pm Tuesday. House is (currently) 100% electric. Managed to get by (barely) by burning woodworking scraps in the fireplace (I had lots).
Propane, a Generac, a propane space heater, and an ass load of firewood (from all my downed trees) are in my immediate future. Never doing this again.
Also, if my electric bill comes in any higher than last month, ERCOT owes me a !@#$ing subsidy, followed by jail time.
Please see this post from JD_UTDallas. It explains the issues with natural gas in Texas.

Frozen windmills are part of the problem, natural gas production problems are a bigger part of the problem. Inadequate winterization of conventional plants is also a problem.
Millions of voted in Texas were stolen in 2020 in Texas.
One woman alone was responsible for 5,000 straight democrat ballots even when she was caught on tape coercing an elderly woman to ‘correct’ the ballot when the voter marked a Republican that the voter really wanted.
A thousand thousand is a million
200 corrupt Democrats is also a million
In the past, Ice storms did shut down powerlines several times, but the natural gas used to flow anyway.
Weird.
And they do not mention frozen windmills at all. Seems like another propaganda.
