Seems like a case where Texas had zero electricity or gas storage. The number of people who heat with electric seems extream. Powerplants have plenty of extra thermal heat to keep natural gas storage tanks warm and flowing, but Texas skips buffering tanks on power plants. It is not unreasonable to make power plants store 5-15 days of natural gas for such emergencies. Powergrids should be building 1 - 3 days of electrical storage buffer just for needs of electric cars. This is not the first time it has been in the twenties in Texas.

“Seems like a case where Texas had zero electricity or gas storage..”

How do you propose to store several hundred megawatts of electricity?

Just wait until your electric car is expected to act as the utilities backup source.

There is no such thing as a natural gas storage tank that is material to electricity production. There are not even natural gas storage caverns or fields that are sufficient to that task and you don’t heat the ones that exist.

I know this, I’ve been in the business for more than 40 years.
