You do realize that’s not Debbie Harry?

Music was not as good - but does bring back peaceful memories of a freer time - no thought control or twitter mobs.....

“80s music is perfectly fine if you came of age in the 80s. Me? I came of age in the 70s. So there is no better era of music than the 1970s.

It all depends on when you were born and when you grow up.”

Definitely true. I grew up in the 60s, but I like both 60s and 80s music. mrs riverdawg grew up in the 80s. Neither of us cares much for post-1973 70s music, although I must admit (only to my FRiends) that I have a weakness for some disco music!

Me too, graduated from high school in 1971, love the late 60’s, early 70s’ music. Yesterday listened and watched 2 concerts by Yes, one the 35th anniversary and one recent in the Apollo theater. Excellent, relaxing and inspirational music, psychedelic LSD music. Saw them in concert in the late 70’s.

There's a time for uptempo music but also times when you just want to chill out. During the 1980s, Sunday mornings were my time to just chill out. I would cover my living room floor with the Sunday papers, brew up some coffee and put songs like this on the stereo:

"Eye In The Sky" by Alan Parsons Project
"Africa" by Toto
"Waiting For A Girl Like You" by Foreigner
"One More Night" by Phil Collins
"Drive" by The Cars
"Little Lies" by Fleetwood Mac
"I.G.Y" by Donald Fagen
"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman
"Romeo And Juliet" by Dire Straits
"Waiting On A Friend" by Rolling Stones

I miss those innocent days. When you could actually sit down and read a newspaper without the constant barrage we get today with the 24/7 news cycle. I shut that off a few years back and I'll probably added a good 10 years to my life!

The 1980s has scores of low-tempo "chill-out" tunes like the above but you could actually cull them from any decade.

I’d add “Welcome to the Boomtown” by David & David

I can like some 80’s pop, but please NO Duran Duran. Something about their melody lines always seemed extremely forced and ungood.

And after about 1986 I largely dropped out of the popular music scene - which corresponded with more and more Rap on the MTV.

Give me anything from the 50s-80s as long as it’s somewhat melodic or has some redeeming musical value. No disco and very little heavy metal though. The years 1963-1972 are pretty much the sweet spot though. That said, I do love me some classic doo-wop harmonies!

(was born in mid 50’s so a clue to my age)

Thank you, great song. And I'll add "Life In A Northern Town" by the Dream Academy.

All these 1980s music-haters, they must be basing their opinions on Madonna and Michael Jackson.

The 1980s were much more than just Madonna and Michael Jackson.

The best music for reducing anxiety is 1980's rock and roll about the Lord, reminding you that He's in charge and you're on the winning side if you're with Him.

Mylon Lefevre and Broken Heart

Petra

David and the Giants

Bloodgood

Jerusalem

Rez Band

White Heart

Barren Cross

Whitecross

Duran Duran did have a few good songs (I do find many of their hits annoying however).

Here are a couple of worthy ones.

Save A Prayer"

The Chauffeur

A few months ago I downloaded a ton of Petra.

Their music holds up well. Some of their songs are less a song and more a three minute sermon.

If 80s music is the worse thing on the airwaves, then things are OK. :-)

I was in high school and college for most of the 80s ... so that era accounts for about 40% of my iTunes rotation.

I’m not telling my age, but give me Frank Sinatra and Perry Como. Nothing like the words and music in “All or Nothing at All”!

Now -— I’m going to have that piece in my head the rest of the day, but it is fine with me!

I don’t know how innocent things were in the ‘80s — AIDs was spreading like wildfire and drug usage was rampant. But, it was a time of prosperity and most still loved their country and despised communism and we weren’t being plagued by cancel culture.
