Anderson BCA AR15 5.56

Posted on 02/14/2021 7:06:34 PM PST by Mean Daddy

Thinking of purchasing an Anderson Bearcreek Arsenal (BCA) 5.56 AR-15. Any pros or cons? The more research I do, the more I like the 5.56 vs. the .223 even though they're supposed to be interchangeable.

My concerns are purchasing and then finding out any accessories may be proprietary and expensive like sights, additional magazines etc.

Following up to my 13, if you can only have one AR, you would want 5.56, as others have stated.

Every AR owner starts somewhere. I’m guessing your bear creek barrel is a heavy barrel which will last forever. It will probably shoot fine, but don’t expect 1/4 MOA from it. Once you gave the gun, you can and probably will spend lots of money on the many after market upgrades you can find.

Have fun.

Bear creek makes a lot of stuff, but you mostly think of them as a barrel maker. Can’t say I know anything about their side charger, but I don’t think that’s what is being considered.

They make top-charging, as well as left and right side.

They were raided by ICE two years ago. I think their quality has improved.

Of the in stock items I’d get this one.

But I prefer a mid length gas system.

I saw some primers at the gun show yesterday. Normally0 $35/1000, they were $350/1000.

I saw this online recently as well. Talk about gouging. 1000 percent markup. I’m good with my stash for awhile.

It’s a great combo. Don’t think about it too long, just get it now. I’d prefer the Wylde chambering but the 556 is good as well. Also consider a 1;8 twist which should allow you to shoot a wider range of bullets as well. One thing about the BCA upper. I recommend getting a forged BCA upper. It’s stronger and better fits the Anderson forged lower.

Agreed on the Wylde. It’s fairly recent and many old timees don’t know about it. Do a web search.

The Sig Sauer Romeo5 red dot sight is pretty good for the money, if you’re trying to keep costs down.

Only the side charger.

It's drilled and tapped for the handle.

That's the only difference.

It can be used in a rear charger.

I agree with the opinion on the Wylde barrel.

I don’t think BCA makes a lower. Why not just buy a Springfield Armory Saint? Spend $1,000 and it comes with sights.

Was looking at the S&W MP15 Sport II and I called a local gun shop and they’re known for AR15 custom builds. $100 cheaper then the S&W ($775 vs. $899). The local guy was extolling that it’s a better build, quality etc, then the S&W. I know if I post anything about guns on FR, I’ll get responses. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
