What a waste of resources. And I’ve never touched the stuff. But it seems stupid to arrest people on this.

How many of those arrests are driving under the influence? Driving high is the same as driving drunk.

“Lives are being ruined forever over a plant that is safer to consume than legal alcohol. A criminal record is a life sentence. 545,602 people will now struggle to find jobs, a place to live, and a business loan. They can’t vote or buy a gun for self-defense.”

Bravo Sierra. The VAST majority of these violators (it is, after all, illegal most places) will be offered, and successfully complete, deferred adjudication or deferred disposition and have the charge dismissed. It doesn’t affect those people at all in the way this person asserts above.

Genesis 1:29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”

If they don’t continue the war on drugs how will they afford all of their toys?

Billions have been made by lawyers and municipalities. It’s an industry and they are the ones who are addicted.

Now, having said that, the comparison to ETOH is probably a valid one. Should it be rethought? Maybe.

“A criminal record is a life sentence.”

Yet, they commit these crimes. Pot is not a necessity.

"545,602 people will now struggle to find jobs, a place to live, and a business loan. They can’t vote or buy a gun for self-defense."

While I don't think pot should be illegal for personal use, the above sentence is 100% false.

It is still a federal crime. The part that gets me and all these people using pot and lying on applications to buy another gun. I don’t think we should have any restrictions generally speaking on gun purchase of possession, putting them in the hands of drug users, the same as alcohol it’s a bad idea. I know I’m older than a lot of folks, but I never use drugs, and I do not appreciate their use. So I have no sympathy for the people who are arrested, tried, convicted, north in jail for drug possession, drug sales. Actions have consequences.

This is not justice. This is not freedom. This should not be normal.

Then get the laws changed, through the proper channels. But don't stick ME with the bill for those who toke themselves into befuddled unemployability, like they did with alcoholics by calling it a disease instead of a behavior.

According to the most recent national data, police made 545,602 arrests for marijuana-related violations in 2019.

In 2019 1,024,508 drivers were arrested for driving while drunk.

Time for a re-think?

Sorry but the language here is deceptive. A marijuana-related violations, can be beating the heck out of someone because they smoked all your weed.

One of the marijuana-related violation they used to use to tug at your heart strings were a mother and son who decided to do a violent home invasion of a local weed dealer. My heart remained untouched.
