There was a lot of history made at the Super Bowl last night for Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and halftime show headliner The Weeknd, but Nielsen today are making some history of their own.
As America waits and waits on the viewership verdict, it appears at this late hour that there will be no ratings for the Big Game any time soon for the first time ever.
Literally becoming the new definition of the phrase “You had one job,” the long-time data measurement company has nothing to report on the Buccaneers 31-9 win over former reigning NFL champs the Kansas City Chiefs on CBS yesterday. Fast affiliate ratings may be available early in the AM tomorrow, I hear. However, as a well-positioned network source said, “that’s anyone’s guess at this point, isn’t it?”
The problem seems to be incorrect metrics that have caused Nielsen to “re-process” their data. A spread sheet of ratings information did go out earlier Monday, but was quickly recalled. Throughout the day, networks were told that numbers would be coming soon, only to be told that the release time had been pushed back again.
“It looks pretty certain there will be nothing tonight now,” said another network exec to Deadline on the delay. Usually unadjusted early numbers for overnight ratings are distributed to network clients around 8 AM PST. Around that time today, Nielsen made it known that nothing was coming down the pipe until at least 11:30 AM PST.
On that and the overall unprecedented delay on the big draw on TV, Nielsen did not respond to requests from Deadline on the matter. We will update if we hear from them, or when the Super Bowl ratings come in – whatever is first.

That's why the ratings are being withheld.
Get woke. Go broke.
Didn’t watch a second of it.
Heh
I do not personally know one person who watched.
And I know a lot of people. Of course they aren’t all reporting to me. But I know of NOT ONE
Will the BLM thugs riot because a white bread quarterback won and the very light skinned black quarterback lost?
I didn’t watch it either.
They must be waiting for a 3:00 am case with extra ratings.
OK, I did have a browser open to ESPN to check on the score now and then (was rooting for Brady and Grok). But did not actually see a second of the game.
Not that I could have if I wanted to - I cut my cable TV three or four years ago.
There was a collection of 11 vehicles at a nearby house. Other than that, it was hard to tell who if anyone in the neighborhood watched—and this is 40 miles east of the stadium.
Obviously, this is all Trumps’ fault!
They are waiting for the Nielsen equivalent to dominion voting before releasing the ratings.
Heard CBS promoted their own Paramount Plus streaming service due to extra low commercial time buys.
They’re waiting for Stacey Abrams to find another 15 million viewers in the middle of they and then they’ll release the ratings.
They’re trying to calibrate their microgivashitmeter.
I heard something about a football game yesterday but I was busy not having cable television or any desire to watch a football game.
They have to find more veiwers. Will steal them from the puppy bowl.
I have to admit I found an online stream (illegal?) for free and watched the last 2 minutes of the first half and all of the 2nd half because Brady.
WE chould keep an eye out for the ‘updated’ information around 3 a.m.
wow..did I miss something? I guess the NFL has been purged from my list of NEEDS..just like Facebook and Twitter. I got tired of people of darking pigment of their cutis, telling me I was scum... failing to honor the flag of ALL.
I guess they were embarrassed; didn’t watch it either, heard it on the radio - it was a blah game. Brady called a racist because he defeated a black guy.
